umm...I suck at making introductory speeches, so this was basically it...I'll start posting stuff now. :bashful:
The first 2 things I made today for warm-up, because yesterday I enlisted in LMS3 and I was very psyched about it so I was like "shit, now I have to practice like hell until it starts so I'll lose with dignity". But now I see I'm on reserves, so all that momentum is gone :(...I'll still try to do stuff daily though.
Other things are older stuff, from various time periods, but mostly from this year, some from last year and the self portrait is 2 years old.
The last 4 things are the average little sketches you see everywhere, made during courses at university.
I'd appreciate any critique, from monosyllabic words to constructive criticism. (though I prefer the latter)
Oh, and am I allowed to post 3D stuff here?
I'm looking forward to posting more. Have a nice day...or evening, whichever fits you.

thanks for the comment! I'll surely keep drawing.
Until I get started today here's some more recent stuff drawn during courses, something that's quite finished but whatever and some 3D quick low poly stuff (I set myself a 128 triangles limit and 128x128 texture; exceptions are the sword and the alien head which use 512x512 textures, because normal maps look like excrements at lower resolution).

yesterday I felt the urge to paint something the old fashion way, because it's been 2 years since I last did it. So I went to buy some acrylics and started painting. First a little test. I realized it sucked, but I thought I should do some painting from real life in order to "calibrate" myself. So I decided today to make a self portrait. The pencil drawing was fine, the proportions were good and the resemblance was also nice. But when I started painting...good God...I can't do crap with this anymore :(. I forgot how different it was from digital painting. Also it's my first time with acrylics, so far I used only tempera, but that's no excuse.
I just can't get the colors right! And I'm very inaccurate with my brushing. Also I messed up the proportions big time and the resemblance with me was slowly fading away. And when I started doing the eyes, I had just about enough of seeing how bad it looked so I screwed it.
I really need some advice on painting. I need to do some basic exercises maybe, but I don't know what. I was in art high school, but the teacher wasn't doing anything! He just laid a still life in front of the class and then he was gone for the duration of the whole course...He was not coming back even at the end. Of course we all had marks of 10...it was awful...anyway, sorry for the rant, here comes the bullshit.

Definitely an artist after my own heart. Eyes in the opposite direction? Always a good decision. I've even, through sheer will of probably damaging my ocular muscles, figured out how to move my own eyes in slightly opposite directions. Fantastic trick to pull, just talking to your friend across the table, they look away, and when they look back, you're going cockeyed on them.
But back to my point; this is some great art you have here. Blows my own stuff out of the water. :D
Some of my favourites are the uberlisk and carcalac sketches. Great texture, form, and ultra creative design. Seems like you draw the same way I do a lot of the time; just starting without much plan for what parts or features you're gonna add on, and letting the creature develop as you go. Looking forward to checking in on more stuff by you in the future, if I set up a sketchbook here in awhile.

very nice work. i especially like the pencil sketches of the creatures in teh first thread. I think the self portrait turned out really nice. its got great color and a creepy sinister look to it. who cares if it looks like you. very nice strong start. your creatures have a nice distinctive style. keep up the good work.

Sunwise: haha, I have to learn to do the eye in opposite directions thing too; I've been trying, but I can only make them look at one another.
perilous: I'm happy that you think it turned out nice, but I'm convinced it's not. Here, if I just flip it:
http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c87/metalpiss/portretdecacat_flip.jpg
You can see I messed it up quite a bit, I made it as if I had a tooth abscess on my jaw. I usually try to stay away from deformations like these, but this time I forgot to look at the thing in the mirror.
As for the colors, they may be nice but the disappointment for me is that I couldn't make them as they were for real. I couldn't even name the colors (I heard that naming colors as you see them, anywhere, is a very good exercise). That's something I really have to work on.
I think for now I'll try to render various objects or groups of objects in small and simple compositions in black and white, to see if I can at least make the volume rendition properly in this medium. Maybe I should also try and draw them directly with the brush, in hope that it'll make my strokes more accurate...but I don't know, I could use some help on this.
Thanks, joaKimArt! Here is a thing that again it's kinda finished, but its quality is too poor to post somewhere else.
And another thing that I totally dislike, because it didn't turn out how I wanted at all. But the main fault for that is that I wasn't even sure what I wanted...bad thing. And anyway I don't like how I rendered it at all. Waaaay too much orange and all colors are generally warm, there's very little hue variation. And the lower half of the...body looks very flat. The composition is also very lame and boring, just a vertical thing slammed right in the middle of the page.

here's a jellyfish I made last sunday, 3ds max. It was fairly quick, just metaballs and procedural displacement. Compositionally it's very boring, I know.
And a random doodle I made today to test some brushes I made, thought it looked like some sort of scrapyard or something...kinda lame.

oh, and here's what I've done for the 100 creature thing but was too lazy to finish. Ok, that's the last of the old stuff, only new things from now on.

First off I'd like to say that I love your name along with your avatar. Pure class!
Then I'd like to add that I think you're awesome, and that I really can't find much to crit on. If anything it would be that I'd have preferred some stronger values on your stone-lava-monster-thingy up there, but that's nitpicking really.
Overall you're an artist of my tastes. I'll be back!

I love this! And I love the sense of volume and shinyness in your work! And I can't really figure out where you get all your inspiration from :)... Anyways... great work, frate! :) CHEERS!

Thanks Einen! And yes, that lava thing could use much improvement.
Well timmy, my inspiration is mostly random, even I don't know where I got it, I don't have that much of a culture.
un thread de români ar fi tare...dar nu ştiu câţi s-ar băga :/
I'll make a small update today with very few things I did today during courses.

It happens for me often that I don’t know what I want either. But I am getting better at it. To be as clear as possible is an enormous help.
About the brushes, I have tried some new also. But the program is getting error and crashes after some minutes. It’s very bothersome. Your brushes looks very cool btw. I would like to do some myself. Is it hard? Can you maybe help me, explaining how to do a brush? :rendered:
And also, good updates! The creatures are remarkable.

It's not hard at all to make custom brushes. Here are some things that helped me a lot regarding this:

I'm no expert on this, but if you'll have any issues ask me and I'll try to help.

Your creature designs are very fun. I like the ones in pencil especially, because I think it shows their skin textures better than the color versions.
Your sense of lighting/value is great, though. Keep it up!

Hai salut! :}
I really like your work. You have an amazing imagination. Your pencil demons look pretty 3d; i like 'em. About your 3d works, they are pretty well made, but you could use some more detailed textures (you can see the pixels, they look like a 1998 game). I love the orange fish, especially the expression on it's face. :teeth: really angry, and really funny!
Toate cele bune! Vreau sa-ti vad mai multe lucrari.

Hey there metalpiss! You've got a great set of work here, liking the way you render your colored pieces. :) Regarding your selfportrait, I think you're quite right about the colors though. They are pretty far from what seems to be the real deal, I you ask me. They're kinda blurry and smudged, which makes the facial features uncertain, so to speak. The light is kinda weird too, I think you might want to show us where the blue/purple and yellow/green light spaces are coming from. Like in the background and around. Maybe Try using more lines for contours and such too?
Anyways great stuff. I'm glad you posted that portrait, I think you should post more traditional work. Seems to me you're way ahead in digital painting.
oh, and sorry about that teacher of yours too. :/

Thanks to everyone for the comments!
Keenox: regarding the textures, well, that's the whole point. I said I limited myself to the number 128: 128 triangles, 128x128 texture. They're just quick doodles. 3D sketches, if you will :P
Tigermilk: thanks for the comment on that portrait thing. I'll try to do more traditional painting things, because it's my weak and non-safe spot and I have to practice it because it rocks (better than digital, if you ask me). I've bought some oil paints now, doodled for a little and I already love them.
eh I've been really busy and lazy lately. But anyway here's some little stuff. The first thing is just a simple little perspective shadow practice doodle and the second is just random stuff.

Oh najs. Thanks for the links! I just made me one brush. It’s pretty cool! This brush does not make the program crash either :^^:. Haha. Good Photoshop link too.
It was a lot easier then I expected. Feels good to know this. I will try it out and make some simple background to some of my characters perhaps. I like white till tho… Pure.
Good update btw. Keep on posting mate!

A random thing:

an unfinished something that's supposed to be for a daily sketch here with a gladiator robot at the pit stop or something like that, and I doubt that I'll ever finish it:

And something a little older, I made it to lay down an idea for a model. Never finished the model and I never will:

here's how much of the model I made:

ha! Sună mai marfă în română :P
I think it's time to make a little update with stuff that I made all this week (incredible that I managed to do even this few in one week):
1 - it was 1 am and I didn't waned to go to sleep knowing that I did absolutely nothing constructive that day...so I made that thing.
2 - made for the DSG: CREEPY ROBOT'S EXTERIOR IS MADE UP OF ARTICULATED BONE MATTER
3 - made for the DSG: WHILST BATTLING THE MONSTER, THE OLD WIZARD USES THE WRONG SPELL
4 - I saw this cup on my desk and since I almost never painted from life digitally, I decided to give it a try. Unfortunately it was very late at night (or early in the morning actually...) and went to sleep after a short while.
