some of you might remember this piece. it started out on the self-portrait thread. i have been pushing on it just to see where it will go. if you have the inclination push it around yourself.

I am always looking out for your work Foster. I must have missed this one on the SP tread. I see you playing around with different than usual colors, cool!

Really good feel of form on the face. unusual approach for color as mentioned above. Reminds me of one comic book guy style(the austronaut suit), but I just can't recall his name:(. wonderful work. can't wait to see more.

Very cool work as usual. But for some reason the glass dome thing doesn't seem like it will fold down correctly.

jon, since you allow, I just play around with the colours. Not saying this is better, just my take, nothing more. I hope you don't even mind me fooling around with your piece. I remember this with the red suit, very cool so it got stuck in my head. :D I'm glad you bring this out and push it further. The addition of the texture pattern in the background is great!
One thing is that the glass seems not able to fit the guy's head when it closes, perhaps its the lighting thats making it seem so.

gotta love the brushstrokes on his suit. It's great to see you explore the different types of background lately. This is looking great, and I really like the colors you use shawn in your po.

Hey jon. I wanted to get in on the fun. I tried a shadow cast from the glass to see what it would look like with a more definite edge on the top of the head.
Cool selfportrait!

o.k, slight change of plans. i think i want either a big bot standing behind him or perhaps the schematic, blue print, of a bot behind him.

this is just for fun no real restrictions.

I like the new direction you're going with him. His head size is smaller, and it seems like you've pulled back a bit.
It looks great!

I can't deistinguish the bot blueprint much, but it looks cool so far.

Jon-
Tho' you've made a generous offer, I've no time to attempt a paintover this week...but here's what I'd try...a line of these suits (empty, but ready for action)stretching back to the left each in their own lockers or "bays"(largest one at right of head following a vanishing point back off to the left --like 90 degrees (in plan view) from your main figure). That'd create a mid-tone or darker background, making a primarily dark painting except for the head, which of course pops it as the focal point. Maybe no more than three suits or partial suits needed; keep 'em close in...

Hmm... that kinda makes it Jon Foster, starship trooper, ah well...:chug:

Jon this is a good one. I'd suggest a robot behind him on the shadows, real menacing like.
Dig the texture on the armor too. :chug:
