(DISCLAIMER : I cross-posted this from the Tuts section because I figured a request might be better in the Lounge. If I find anything, I'll edit the Turorial section post with any material.)

Anyone reading Wizard Comics magasine ? A coworker and I have been scouring our atticks and the web in search of some articles from the "Basic Training" collumns in that mag. Those are great !
We're looking for one in peticular by Art Adams in wizard #72.

If anyone happends to collect Wizard Comics Mags, I'll be forever in debt if you could find it (and maybe scan the others ? ) !!

Show your geekyness guys ! And keep me posted ;)

I'm positive I have it, though it's in my parents basement several states away, so I'm no help, sorry. The ones Joe Kubert does are pretty much the same things he has in his book "Joe Kubert's Wonderful World of Comics." Wizard should compile them all into a book, I know I'd buy it in a heartbeat. I'd like to see the old Bart Sears one's again. What happend to that guy, is he still around?

PencilPunx : Everyone agrees Wizard should do a compilation of those. Perhaps the idea was tossed around but I can bet my blue pencils some legal mumbo jumbo forbids them to go ahead with such a project.
Maybe we should mass mail them and ask if such a dream could come trough ?
Anyway, thanks for the heads up on Kubert. I'll try to dig trough my piles of mags to see if there are any of Bart Sears.

Bat: YAY you found it ! Would you be kind enough to scan that for us please ? And consequently put a link somewhere to them or mail all that at your convenience ?

You got it. What is easier for you, posting links or emailing you?

To all who sent me private messages, I didn't mean to ignore them just wasn't aware they were there. Now all answered ! :)

Yeah, he's still around. Last I saw he was doing some work for CrossGen on a fantasy type comic. He also put out a drawing book not too long ago. From what I can remember it was a lot like his "Babe & Brutes" section in Wizard lo those many years ago.
Anyway, I remember someone had scanned all his tutorials and posted them on a website a while back. The scans were huge. Still trying to track down that site. If I can remember where it was I'll post the link here.

Also, if you're looking for a magazine like Wizard that has nothing but tutorials, I suggest giving DRAW! (http://www.drawmagazine.com/) a read. It's like a half dozen in-depth lessons (penciling, inking, composition, etc.) with plenty of examples to walk you through. The downside is that this magazine comes out VERY erratically. They are trying to get better and ship on time but it is typically 2-3 months between issues.

Hmm interesting Beer Baron, thanks for the link.

As far as our quest for the missing article goes, it's been found ! Some members have gracefully scanned and sent it to me :)
The improvised project of trying to put as many as we can and putting them on the web somewhere still stands and you're all welcome to participate !
So far we have :

UPDATED LIST HERE (http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=112818#post112818)

And this is only from being pelted by zealous artists ! I will try to dig trough my own old wizards this weekend and update the list. Woo ! I love this place. :chug:

I received questions on the scanning.
As for the resolution, 72 dpi is fine even tho you can send higher res if you want. Size wise, I received stuff ranging from 650x970 to 1000x1600 pixels. As earlyer, the bigger the better as it's easyer to read the article.
If you're wondering where to send it, use wizardbasictraining@yahoo.ca OR send me a PM for a pro email address. :)

BadMange: (btw, is there a story behind your nick ?) yes I will as soon as I have some time to find a reliable host. I have my own accounts but with limited space. I WON'T rely on free accounts due to the limited bandwith issues those are usually tied with. This is going to be fun :)
Oh and props to negativespace for sending them in hi-res :)

egerie a.k.a Aline, who should go back under the covers. Snifle.

Sweet, thanks!

Yeah, there's a story behind the nic. Used to work in a mailroom, and there was a sign by the company entrance that said "have a nice day" along w/ the company name. some joker used to rearrange the letters to say "Have a bad mange." Drove my boss insane, as he swore he'd catch whoever was doing it. And it happened a LOT. He thought it was me for the longest time. Since I have curly hair and was growing it out, it looked like a fro (think Jimmy Page circa 1969-70). My co-workers, desperately wanting to make fun of the fro and knowing the boss suspected me, nicknamed me "Bad Mange". There, the truth is finally out. Now I can finally get on with my life. :D

Why was the Wizard mag thread in the tutorials section deleted? I wasn't able to read Jason's reply before it disappeared. I take it Lost Pencil had something to do with it?

Hey BadMange. I didn't have the leisure to read anything new in that thread, but the situation is on hiatus at the moment. I'm in contact with Wizard Entertainment.

Edit: Bolding things out for fast readers :) and I just noticed it's been one year TODAY that I've registed the boards :) Does that means ConceptArt.org is one year old ?!? Because I signed when it opened if I remember well... :chug: :chug: :chug: :chug:

a certain member created quite a bit of unnecessary drama in regards to that thread. rather than keep getting emails from him with complaints..i deleted it.

the solution is to ask someone at wizard if its ok to post them on this educational and NOT for profit website in order to help artists grow in their craft.

i imagine it will be ok with them. i would be surprised if it was not.

honestly, if you all want to share old magazine scans that will help you all get better then do so. feel free to put them up. if wizard says no then take them down. I doubt they will find it a concern that the info they released to help artists would be doing just that.

if they were selling those tutes online and someone had them here for free then that would be a problem in my mind.

keep up the hard work peeps.

I deleted the thread because there were people going there just to create drama and to stoke the fire.

Thanks for the explanation Jason. :)

Now does anybody still have the links that were on the page? :(

BadMange

The guy hosting the link, other than egerie, took it down due to that "certain member" complaining. I think the best thing to do is wait for Wizard Magazine's reply. I agree with Jason, they'll prolly have no problem with it.

And thanks for the explanation, Jason.

there is nothing wrong with you all sharing that info amongst yourselves.

I've been patiently checking the site, and wondered if there will be any updates to it. I already archived the currently posted tutorials. I don't want to keep checking, if it not going to be updated though.
