Despite having drawn for years, I have never actually built a professional portfolio. Most of my commissions and work has come based off either word of mouth or 1-2 pieces of artwork. How would you recommend building up a portfolio?
I've heard there's a strategic pattern to placing artwork. Is there any formula to it, or is it just gut feeling? Also, since this is a concept art portfolio and not a regular art portfolio, how should I tailor it? Should I put in finished pieces mixed with sketches - all sketches - pencil sketches & coloured - only colour, etc.?
