View Full Version : Destroyed Cathedral

I-NetGraFX

Some concept paintings for my personal project.
It's about a abandoned destroyed cathedral with some strange stuff happening in there.

All sketches were entirely done in Photoshop CS2 between 3-4 hours per piece.
I kept on varying designs, architecture, elements, etc. since it's a work in progress ...

Thanks for viewing!

Dan

Update:

The last entry shows a speed paint that I started from a line drawing from a storyboard done by D. Jeevan (www.djeevan.com (http://www.djeevan.com)).

I also decided to do a screen capturing of the painting process.
I've uploaded a video tutorial on my website: www.inetgrafx.com (http://www.inetgrafx.com) in the tutorial section. Let me know what you think. Critiques and comments are very welcome!

i've seen several paintings similar to this style and i really like it, but im dying to know how u get such a textural look to your painting. If you wouldn't mind, it would be sweet to see the PSD or just an explaination of the process of how you go from straight painting to getting the finished, textural look.

This is utterly beautiful Dan
I was a big fan of your Industrial Gothic painting but for me these are even better. I love the textures and the gritty realism. I think the thing that makes these of real beauty is your handling of light. Stunning work my friend, and an easy 5* from me.
I love this style so much. Please do a tutorial or make the PSD available to your fans! :)

the 2nd piece is stunning!
Just quick minor crits...
Even though the birds on the left are a good way to draw the viewer in, I think the way they're lit is not consistant with the rest of the piece and they become too spotty and distracting...it be better- IMHO- if you just hinted at them with the light barely hitting them...would be creepier too.
The 2nd thing is the perspective of the chandelier- not sure if you are trying to show that its delapitated and falling apart(?) - but it doesnt help push the extreme perspective of the rest of the piece that makes things so grand. It just feels like we need to see more of the bottom.

Beautiful! It reminds me of the cathedral from Cowboy bebop :xpld:. Which is the only anime I like, so <33.

The atmosphere in the second one is great, the lighting is really effective. Good use of texture in all of them.

Cydonix: thx! I've overlayed a couple of textures to break-up paint strokes and flat painted areas.

space-sprayer, GoMegaX: I've added a video tutorial on my website in the tutorial section: www.inetgrafx.com (http://www.inetgrafx.com)
It shows a bit my painting process. Unfortunately it's more like a speed paint, since I spent just an 1h 20mins on it.

Rascar Capac: Thanks a lot for your constructive comment!
About the birds, ... they have been replaced by ravens in our concept.
Fits indeed better to the mood. Probably you are right about the chandelier, since I painted it in very quick, I didn't payed enough attention to the perspective of it ...
