View Full Version : Need help finding scholarships for Art Schools
November 9th, 2007, 03:13 AM
I'm wondering wether some of you here have any experiences with attaining scholarships or other forms of financial aid in these schools. I plan on taking a degree in Illustration or Fine Arts abroad. I am currently in Malaysia and will be finishing up my diploma in illustration mid next year so I have to start looking. I can probably only afford $15,000 a year or less, so some form of scholarship or financial aid is something i need to get into the schools i wanna go to.
I have looked around so far these are my current choices. the top two being my preferred choices
Art Center - http://www.artcenter.edu/
Academy of Art - http://www.academyart.edu/
Ringling - http://www.ringling.edu/
SCAD - http://www.scad.edu/
Please let me know if these are good choices, and if you know of other good places for me to apply to. If any of you know any good places to get a degree in Canada that would be great as well because I have family there.
Here are my current works. Some of the freelance stuff I have worked on arent here cuz of NDA's so I hope this is a solid enough folio.

how old are you?
i'm a senior now, and im in the same position as you, one thing i have noticed though is there are tons of scholarship opportunities in high school..
my senior year ive had two presentations, and each company has given me applications for $1,500 scholarships just for being at their presentation! aside from that, schools offer (im sure you know this) tons of scholarships, so you really should get with an admissions rep and see what they have to offer (the school i was looking at offered a $13,500 scholarship if you got an 1100 on your SAT.. an 1100!!)
also, i dunno how this would apply to you but you should try to get in touch with any kind of companies that have some kind of field for illustration.. my sister's boyfriend is co owner of an animation company based out of san antonio, and they are offering me a scholarship at UT to come intern for them.. (though i dont know why.. lol)
do a lot of researching, and DEFINATELY give a college a call.. they deal with people in your posision all the time, and will offer tons of info on finacial aid..
hope this helped :]

hey JBuRRkE :)
I'm 23 at the moment, took a course in multimedia before switching to illustration so hahah time really isn't on my side :P What companies are these that are offering the scholarships? I heard from most that there really isn't as much opportunities for international students so I am quite worried at the moment. I have contacted the admissions reps through email and have sent links to my portfolio, I hope this is enough. I think I got along those lines for the SAT i took, kind of surprising they offer a scholarship that high which is great :) What kind of companies do you suggest I contact? I don't really have links in people at those positions so I am not sure I'll have luck there. Crossin my fingers and waiting for the responses of the colleges I have emailed.

well im not at home right now, so i dont have the links.. but as soon as i get a chance (and i remember.. pm me if i forget =/) i'll give you all the links that i know of :]
for now, you can do whatever you can at www.prephq.com
dunno how much taht will help you (it says for high school students =/) but they are constantly sending me information about scholarships through email and stuff.. also dunno what they do about international so you'll have to look into it
if whoever you were contacting was offering scholarships based on a portfolio i'll tell you now that you would get a huge one! your portfolio is amazing and i love every concept i've seen by you.. i think you're the first sb i'm glued to here at CA :P
