Been asked to design a buggy, only one problem...I still don't quite understand perspective.

I have looked around and found Scott Robertson's tutorial, what I don't understand is how could he possibly do the following example on one piece on paper?, how does he know exactly where the vanishing point is if its off the paper?...the only solution would be to stick together loads of pages. Is this how its done?!

Thanks, if anyone has any links that could help me out it would be appreaciated.:chug:

ME thinks there are two ways to do it, other than the one you allready mentioned...

1.) good eye measurement... its hard but i know that you can learn it, just got to try.

2.) fix your sheet of paper to the table, and stick notes to the points where the vanishing points are. That is... if they are of the paper!

Forgot one!

You can also make a perspective grid... its easily created with photoshop or illustrator!

Thanks for the advice kyrre, 2nd idea of sticking notes to a table is a good one...just means me having to get rid of all the junk on my desk:(

Here is what I have so far, at the moment I am just playing with front and side in order to design it and will do a perspective of it when I have finished. I'm just worried about the front and side not looking like the same vehical (in terms of shapes etc, especially bits that bulge outwards) This isn't a payed job but I still want to do my best so I will keep trying. Just wondering if your expected to get everything spot on and make everything "fit" perfectly for people to accept your concept work.

perspective that motha up!

looks like you are going for a cartoon thing, otherwise I'd say, put a huge engine on the back of that baby with fire breathing exhaust.

um, anyway, i think the weekest part is the fan on the back. its pretty good other than that.

keep on workin!

El kyrre got It covered. I just thought to mention that U could do a little thumb on a bigger paper, get the perspective right and then blow up the little thumbb in size (in psd or with a xeroxcopier). Im not so deep into perspective, but I think there may be a risk of doing it that way, the perspective may somehow be distorted (I remember maybe I read something about that in a photo magazine - the zoom distorts perspective, and so should "zooming" on paper do, dunno - take all I say with a health pinch of salt, right :D ).

That buggy looks like it can comeout a-ok. :D
I want to see it finished.

Just wondering if your expected to get everything spot on and make everything "fit" perfectly for people to accept your concept work.

I wonder that too - I mean, all the things I see around here are ultra-slick, more like commercials or finished art, my concepts look like complete crap in comparison!!!

Do you mean how its drawn or the fact that its small?, its actually a little office fan attached to the back. The idea is that the guy who races it is a cheapskate and uses a (broken) umbrella for a roof, a house tourch for his broken left light and a office fan because he thinks it might make him go faster, lol

Is the office fan a bit over the top then?
