Well, i 've mo idea too,
look very funky with is hairy boots and is grass underwear.
The background is not bad, but i think you should have put the darkest trees behind the clearest.
The trees he carry doesn't fit the forest.

You've painted this well and I really like the grassy texture on the rock guy's body, but I'd suggest throwing in a few minor adjustments to contrast say one end of the painting to the other. At the moment, everything falls into the same line of sight because of the same colours and lighting.

Maybe a bright moon in the sky to give off a nice, bright glow? Or some contrasting reds in the form of a couple of little fires in the woods?

Another idea would be that those two little people could have set up camp in the forest, thus creating more of a reason to spark up a small fire? Maybe a little tent and some logs?

Compelling image, reminiscent of the iron giant.
a couple things to keep in mind are , a little more variance on opacity and application of brushwork, to establish a sense of space behind and in front of your figures. For the sake of drama, I'd enjoy some poses that are a little more telling of the characters interaction
