hm, from a look inside in amazon it looks interesting, different body types in the muscle view is quite interesting and potentially useful. but i've not got the book, so if someone does the review would be quite helpful

I've never read that book but one thing that can be said is to get your hands on as many books as you can. They all have something that can be gained from them. With that said, you can download a couple of Bridgman's volumes from this thread (they are out of copyright):

hey man

I think it's really good. I've had this book for a long time. i wouldn't suggest returning it but it's your call. I went through a few anatomy books and i like the turn around of every body part he does in this book..

I tried the links, and they worked for me. Just took a while to download...very large file, and also need to have abode acrobat installed to view pdf files.

If those links go to google books or equivalent, they might be barring you based on your IP, US and rest of world having slightly different copyright laws and that.

<--Guessing, had it happen to me before.

This is the book I have: http://www.amazon.com/Anatomy-Artist-Sarah-Simblet/dp/078948045X/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/002-1580300-8796058?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1194369032&sr=1-1

And I LOVE IT! Not that I have ever had any before this one, but I'm finding it extremeley usefull!!!! I got it half off at hastings, someone brought it back and traded it in as a used book! =cheers=

If you like the book keep it.

about the pdf book.
Slower Internet connections can prevent it from downloading completely.
A full browser cache can do the same thing.

Since its a large file it could be worth to try and empty your browser cache then try again even though you got an error message trying to download the pdf

and as Flake said "they might be barring you based on your IP, US and rest of world having slightly different copyright laws and that. " This has happened to me too trying to listen to an American streamable radio station. :[

I have a different Sheppard book (Drawing the Living Figure) - Definitely like having it in my collection, but I do think there are books I'd hold at a higher priority.

Some books I would definitely recommend are:
"Atlas of Human Anatomy for the Artist" by Stephen Rogers Peck (My favorite Human Anatomy book, hands down - covers a good deal of each subject in 4 major ways: Diagram, Function, Artist Interpretation, and Limited Scientific)
-and-
"Dynamic Figure Drawing" by Burne Hogarth (a few people will jump on me for that one, just want to note that it's important to use it as a supplement to life drawing, not a substitute - take info in it, and look at how it works with the actual figure - see the exaggerations and simplifications he uses, as is important with ALL Hogarth books)

--------

As for the Sarah Simblet book, can't say I was very impressed by that - there are much more in-depth and useful books out there (I viewed a copy of the Sarah Simblet book, and decided not to purchase). It's not a "Horrible" book or anything, just better books out there to spend your cash on imo.

-------

I also have to note, that my library has blossomed over the past year or so (from maybe 5-10 books, up to easily over 40) - While I can only attest to using maybe 4 or 5 of them frequently - I can definitely say that all except 3 or 4 hold material that I will jump back on and refer to when I need that little extra bit of info to go to that next step. (The 3 or 4 were thankfully gifts, so didn't cost me anything - or I'd have buyer's remorse :P).

Also when getting your library set up - don't trap yourself into simply instructional books, there is much that can be gleaned from viewing artists that inspire you - so if you see a movie, show, game, or artist you like the visuals of... check if they have an "art of" book :).

I have the Sarah Simblet book. While it definately isn't the best book ever, I like its use of photography and the transparent overlays are extremely useful, the book probably would have been a lot better if it had more overlays.
It is probably best for beginners.

While I'm here, I might as well ask, does anyone know of any anatomy books that use overlays more extensively?

This is easy to get around by using a proxy server.
