Trying really hard to get better. It's a new year so I'm going to try my best. Luckily there's enough good stuff around here to look at so that when I do give up - I can become inspired to start again.
First pic is just a thumb for the thread.

good start. first off when it comes to faces, before you go into all the values be sure you get all the proportions down right (the last girls head is to big and rounded. also put some time into studying anatomy and the way the human form is because when you get good at that your characters will stand out a lot. your digi works are coming along alrite i would suggest pushing your darks and lights a lot more because right now a lot of the faces look flat w/ a very minimal contrast. improving on these things will really make your drawings stand out. keep posting though because your off to a good start.

I like your character concepts. :) Even though I can't say anything about their personalities from these pictures, maybe you could add some of that? :)

Thanks for the helps, ppl! Yeah - anatomy is important! :D
I finally got around to posting some scanned works! Yay for practice!
Sorry if stuff is cropped, I absolutely can't stand the sound my scanner makes when it's working...so...I don't rescan to get stuff all in there.
Most of the stuff now is new, cept the fairy is old. That was a life drawing model we had to turn into a fantasy creature. The rest is all practice st00f. :)
I really want to scan in my pastel, but those are on 18x24 paper...soo...gonna have to figure something out there.
As always, critiques are welcome! Please be kind though, I'm graduating from art school in like..and I'm freaking out about my lack of skillz. O.o
As for the characters I previously showed - I would *love* to put in more personality. The only problem is...and I kind of want to ask an opinion...do you think it's rough that my teacher wants three fully-colored character turn arounds (front, back, right side, left side, 3/4 view), three objects, two environments, a cover image, and a 2-4 page fully colored comic finished in 9 weeks? Plus I have to package it all together into a "pretty" book and write a bunch of explanations about story and stuff. Keep in mind I also have two other classes and work to content with. Is that...do-able? Or am I just being whiney? I kind of think it's too much.
I really wanna be able to focus on one thing...and make it nice. But all I seem to have time for is practice (which I'm not complaining about) and...well…mediocre turnarounds. I kind of wish the teacher have us time to come up with something...more involved?
Meh...I'll stop my bitching now. :P

Updated face of the ghost lady. Still hate it tho, lol. It's too comic-bookie for my taste. O.o TheSadPencil - you were definately right about the roundedness. It's really hard sometimes cause between home, work, and school I work off like 5 different monitors, all with different color calibrations and resolutions. Such a pain -_-;
Anyone know how to change the thumbnail for threads? I tried looking the f.a.q but couldn't figure it out.

The thumbnail for the thread is the first picture you upload in your first post. so to change it you have to edit, remove and replace.
I like this:

Good anatomy and construction studies, these will pay off long term. Painting is nice and coming along. For some of your portrait pics, all the elements seem separate and don't mesh together. I think it's because some elements, like the eyes or hair, are fully rendered too soon and distract from the rest which is not rendered to the same level yet. I'd suggest not to focus on single elements and try to progress the whole image together. For example, your last picture or the one is the second post has fully rendered eyes while the rest still needs much rendering. Perhaps try approaching it in stages like: initial drawing/underpainting, blocking of colors for all areas, shading of areas, refining the shapes, highlights and the final detailed rendering.
More painting from reference will push you artwork a lot since you already have the ability to produce good detailed rendering!

yes, studies, that's the way to improve your characters. Just try to have an equal amount of studies from life and from imagination then just keep doing it. For the clothing practice, make sure you know how the folds are working for the body movement, study from your own drapery setups, make long studies and start to assimilate how it works, then you will be able to design with more realism. Just as drawing the figure and everything, not just copy, learn from everything you're studying.
Cheers and thanks for droppin' by my book

THIS IS TOTALLY AN UPDATE
Thought I'd post some work I did for a flash class. We had to come up with two platform games. The one I'm linking to now is my second attempt. Hopefully I'll get around to uploading my first attempt to my website. But it's not as neat, anyway. :P Yes, I know there's probably too many levels but my teacher required so many - AND I am aware the sound design needs...work. O.o Totally a blow-off class I had between difficult 3d classes. -_- But it was fun anyway. Probably this was all the drawing I accomplished during my last quarter before summer break. -_-; It saddens me.
Hope you enjoy the game!!

Thanks for checkin' out my SB.
You've started on the right track for sure. I think that's the most important thing for a beginner - to not worry about getting awesome, but to do the right things, and good results will follow.
Keep up the anatomy studies. Study from great anatomy masters like Andrew Loomis, Glen Vilppu and George Bridgeman.
I want to stress the importance of blind contour drawing.
It trains your hand-eye coordination, and more importantly, to break the habit of drawing what you think as opposed to what is really there.
Last few portraits are nice. Watch our for proportions, and keep light and dark sides separated, which you've done a good job of on the last one.
Keep it up!
EDIT: btw, the flash game didn't seem to work. Nothing happened after I pressed start. :S

Thank you very much. ^_^
Yea I think the eyes are a little big on the last two portraits. Proportion seems to be my biggest problem lately.
I have the Andrew Loomis and George Bridgeman books - will have to look up that last fellow, Glen Vilppu.
As for the flash game - oh noes! You gotta kinda press on the word 'start' itself, it's kinda glitchy. >< I'm sorry. It's not my source code - only a highly edited version of the teacher's.
Thanks for stopping by. ^_^
