Hey there! May as well post my crits in this thread instead of the other. The main issues I can see relate to perspective and shading, not that I'm any good at those myself. I hope the following make some sense:
#1 - the pot and cube on the left of the picture are a little skewed, and the cloth (mainly towards the foreground) is a bit obscurely shaded, it's hard to see what's going on with it. Stronger highlights and firmer shadows wouldn't go amiss. :)
#2 - mostly same as above, some extra study of perspective (Seedling has a very good Perspective 101 thread going on under Exclusive Content) and lighting would go a long way. I'm not too sure how the objects in the scene are meant to relate to each other - are they on the floor, leaning against a wall?
#3 - the face has strong, decisive shadows and a more definite sense of form than the subjects in the previous two pictures. The highlights could do with being brighter to match the depth of the shadows, and the necks seems a bit too broad, but otherwise I think is the best of the three. :teeth:
Keep it up, it'd be nice to see some work from you in different media. It's good that you're doing some still lifes (I don't do nearly enough of them). Good luck with the next project, I hope you stick around! :)

nice start so far, maybe add some more white highlights, that should give everything a more 3dimentional feel

Greetings and welcome to CA and the Beginners! (I'm new as well, so I know how nice it is to get the warm welcome :P)
You've got a good start here, but I would definitely listen to Ampersand. I'd share my input and advice but I'd just be repeating her. Trust me though, she knows what she's talking about check out her sketch book. ;)
Then mine......since you'll be in the area hahaha
Look forward to seeing more so you are a definite watch :D

The beginnings of my chicken concept. Any suggestions are appreciated. Any advice on how a digital art virgin jumps into the fray is REALLY APPRECIATED.

H Indigo. I think when you're sketching with pen you need to be more precise in terms of both line work and shading, the door doesn't do you credit as I can see from your other sketches that you're capable of doing a lot better.
On the chicken, I can go with the hands, although I might try to make them look more like end feathers on the wing, which could benifit from being more wing like and less arm like. Tits on a chicken though?:S
Keep at it.

Der....that's not a pen is it, it's a scanned pencil. Still, the message stands.

Hi Greenjack,
Thanks for looking at my sketches and thanks for the advice. I will definitely keep your tips in mind on my next sketches.

I'm behind on adding sketches.
Here's the first basic anatomy sketch that I did...

I'm also learning how to use Photoshop while being mentored in digital coloring. Here's the first thing I did in Photoshop. OBVIOUSLY, I DID NOT draw this picture...

Then here's my second attempt at coloring. I still have A LOT to learn...

This next picture is an assignment from my Foundations of Graphic Design Class. I really like the way this mask turned out, so I decided to include it in my sketchbook...

I'm also working on developing my filmmaking skills. I've now started storying boarding the movies I watch... well the beginnings of movies. This was the movie Domino and it was only the first 30 seconds. Practice, right? I've just got to develop that stamina and tough skin. Anyway, here's the storyboard...

I love the cock-a-doodle death, I think there is a level of precision and detail in there that is missing from some of your other works. How long are you taking to do your sketches? They feel a little rushed to me and I wonder if you could get better detail if you slowed down a bit.
Oh yes, and I think your self-portrait shows some great improvements after mapping out the skull! Keep up the good work!
