Hi guys! My name is Mayrhosby Yeoshen and right now I'm in my second year of traditional animation studies.

I've been following this forum since some years ago and now I finally have the courage to join it. I'm sure yo've listened to this gazillion times but you are all amazing, and the more and more I see, the more in awe I am.

So that's why I came here, to learn from you. One of my goals for now is not just to improve my skills, but to embrace more styles and try out new and different things. I've noticed that men here have such a clever eye for layout concepts, monsters, barbarians and the likes. I also love the style when done both the traditional and digital way, the understanding of composition, colors and 3D shape is beyond my reach. Any advice from the pros are more than welcome :^^:

So with this introduction I'll drop some of the stuff I've done in the past and I consider can be in a sketchbook.

This is a girl I drew from an "action poses" book:

Trees

More trees

The statue at the top and at the right are drawn from real sculpture at the National Art Gallery. The other one is one I found years ago in a greek art book and loved ithttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v235/MayYeo/Sketchbook/Statues.jpg

My second shading life drawing figure (The first try was so smudged that my scanner couldn't recognize it)

So what do you think guys? I'll be posting more later. Gotta work on my assignments right now =) Have a nice weekend

PS: Oh, btw, how do I have an icon for this thread? Like, the "Preview" thumbnail?

Welcome MayYeo!

Excellent start, you are on the right way with your technique.
You begin simple and at the same time accurate, that is really clever because you can add details afterwards.

Show me more!

hey MayYeo, do I know you? I remember your name, did you post on deviant art before? Maybe you just have a similar name. Anyways good work, I love the last one, great shading, and really nice line.

To make an icon, you have to upload a picture. using concept art uploader( manage attachments). it'll be the last picture you upload. I think thats how you do it.

I looked at your homepage and you seem to be the same mayyeo! cool to have you one these boards. You should post some of your paintings. They're hardcore.

Thanks people =)

Xaya: Thanks man (I dunno why I thought you were a girl xD). I saw your sketchbook, very impressive!
Agelaos: I do remember you! I'd love to see your artworks, bet you've improved way too much! I won't post any of my old illustrations here. I'll use the forums to get advice on next ones =) And thanks for the preview help =)
Myjkolada: Thanks ^^

Well I'm posting more old stuff in the meanwhile while I get time to draw more recent art (as long as my assignments let me). I'm seeing great stuff here and they're source of inspiration.

Self portrait (the scanner kind of removed half of the tones)

Very Nice, your anatomy work is perfect, just perfect, but one thing bothers me it looks a little stiff.

Hi May... I suspected it might be your work when I saw the name, I've loved your work since I found it when we were both featured by CGTalk on their portfolio site. You should definitely post some of your paintings here. Lovely to see the work that goes into them with studies too, I love the cleanliness of your lines and the simplifying of shapes, is that a stylistic choice, or something you do because of the whole animation thing? Whatever the case, I love it. Would love to see more.

Wow, great sketchbook. That self-portrait is fine work, you even took the trouble to depict the optics of your glasses! It seems like studying art suits you. I like your anatomy too, I don't have any criticism but I hope you post more. Also I looked at your website, you sure do have some awesome portraits there. Keep it up!

Hi peope, sorry for not replying in mor than one week! o.O

JesArt: I totally agree with you. It seems the only way to not drawing stiff is to animate, hehehe. Which is weird and/or totally wrong. I'll try to improve that, thanks =)

Zephyri: Hi there! I had to take a peek at your gallery, very nice artworks you have! I'd like to see your sketchbook thread if you have it (gotta search myself). About the style, I kind of had that style before studying animation but now that I think about it, it helped me develop it that way. I know animators can be very rough most of the times but I work the other way, I need precise lines to show with no mistake what I want to show. Thanks!

Nam: Thanks, I'm doing so!

Smws: Thanks for looking! Also, I love painting portraits, it's my biggest art passion. Should try more stuff tho. Thanks!

And here, more life drawing stuff! And some other things.

Life drawing... 20 min?

Moar life drawing, I guess these were 15 min each

Some hands, old school ones and "normal" ones xD
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v235/MayYeo/Sketchbook/Hands.jpg

This is something I wanted to paint on the PC but for some reason it didn't look that good so I decided it to abandon it and leave it as it is:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v235/MayYeo/Sketchbook/Girl.jpg

OMG! Colors! This is a very, veeeery old illlustration I did centuries ago but I stil like. Altho I lost the original PSD file =/ Heavily inspired by Bengal!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v235/MayYeo/Sketchbook/CuelloLargo03.jpg

And lame anime of d00m (some old fashioned chara I really don't care too much about)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v235/MayYeo/Sketchbook/Riso.jpg

That's it. Btw, how do I thank other posts or people?

It's been a while since I posted here. Studies have been kept me busy until now (very, very busy). But now I have time for my own stuff! Anyway, nothing digital this time, just a bunch of traditional stuff again. Pencil and blue colerase.
