STUNNING. What can you tell us about your process? At a glance there's a very 3D modeled look to the buildings, but on closer inspection it appears these were done by hand (certain spherical perspectives are off).
Really really cool, pstraub.

yes, yes...ellipses in perspective...I hate um.
Basically the space city image was roughed out as a charcoal sketch..scanned in and then drawn over in photoshop. I probably should have roughed the thing out in Maya as the perspective would have been more acurate. Instead I used the old school "matte painter" technique of mapping the image out with a grid. Then it was pretty much built pixel by pixel.

I recognized your style instantly from GFX. Your work is incredible! Thanks for describing the process.
If any of you haven't seen it yet, I recommend checking out Philip's site. There is a lot more work on there that will blow your mind. :thumb:

I'm looking at these saying to myself "one day, my friend, one day you'll be able to do that".
For now, I'm just going to use those as inspiration for some pieces of my own. Hmmm...
That semi gothic future indian european thing you've got going is neet, I may rough up some mecha, spacecraft etc designs based on it. What sorts of things are in your short story? Can we read the story?
Great work, needless to say. If no one has hired you as an artist by now then they're all damn fools.

vijil: Thank you for the fine compliments. Please drop me a line when you do your spacecraft concepts. I'd love to see them.
Funny, you mention the job thing, I was employed at Vivendi Universal Games for 5 years but they closed our division down. I currently am trying my hand at a bunch of different things; writing, teaching, and of course drawiing and painting. The freelance thing is fun but it is a bit scary. I continue to look around at full time gigs as well...but as you all know, some of them are very "production pipeline" oriented and it is important for me to get at least some of my own vision out. Know what I mean? Ahhhh the struggle of the artist.
Thanks again.
Davi: Thank you! The seascape wasn't too bad...about a week. The spacecity...oh yes....took me months off and on.

William: My thoughts exactly...this one was totally a trip to work on. Reminds me of the drawings I did as a kid only, hopefully, a bit better:)
