Ant,
I really appreciate seeing your sketches. I see that you have a good eye and a steady hand. I like that you're loosening up your lines, but you can do so even more. The last life drawing you posted is very close to what I'm talking about. I also love the roundness of these lines very much. Be sure to check the perpective of your mouthes, this will add to the consistency of your faces. Your designs and ornaments are sweet, but you can take them even further, explore them more. I still see some smaller issues with your hairlines, these need more determination.
All in all, lovely to see.
Keep us posted.

Marko: Thanks for the tips, I'll sure look into the things you suggested!! I'm fan of your work by the way.
Groover: Hehe, I'm happy you enjoyed the humor. I actually censured lot of the stuff cos I found it too rude, I'll try not to do that next time then:)

very kickass stuff. It's great to see some of the half-done stuff too, so I can see how you start and what process you take. I can't wait until I can construct figures from imagination like you can. life drawings look great too. Post 'em if ya got 'em.

Snowfly - thanks, I've been seeing your stuff lately around.. super eyecandy.
cos - it is biggest pleasure to have these pleasent comments from someone like you. I get lot of fuel from your work.
Faxtar - thanks a lot:) usually I wear the sock while drawing.. it's up to you to decide on what.
Dan.v.D. - glad you like them. I hope some new ones are coming soon.
Atmospheria - thanks mate.yeah I know about the contrast. I always try to get it right, but I can't figure out how. I need to study your drawings more:) as you have done it very perfectly.
Jester - Thank you, these words mean a lot to me. With life drawing I try to change my sketchbook size every time per class. but the size goes from a5-a2. I believe then I wont get kind of stuck or my hand don't get used to size but rather actually learn to see. I haven't done much of the lifedrawing though, so I'm no expert in this area(done it probably around 6 times). But I sure feel how useful it is. Can't stress enough how much it gives you freedom and imagination for ideas and improvement in pure technical aspect. The latest drawings with naked guy holding tomato and a guy surrounded with soldiers are A4.
Sypha - thanks;)

wow.. some very convincing doodles, they almost look from life.. Thats some great stuff.. the comments to yourself are a nice touch... only one thing i saw, the cast shadow on one of the arms in one of the life drawings looked really hard, but thats pretty nitpicky... your stuff reminds me of wesley burt.. keep this up.. cuz yeah it is inspiring..

some fantastic stuff going on here! Interesting crosshatching technique, I like how your pencil studies spill out over the page yet remain thoughtfully organised, cloth and life studies are great, detail retains clarity and focus, makes me think jeez I got some work to do :) the anatomy studies on your site are excellent I wonder where these were referenced from?
That old man walking the dog is insane! ...His shields, weapons and armour, once trophies of former victories and symbols of the honour bestowed upon high ranking militant gentry, now a heavy burden upon the once athletic and agile man, but pride commits him to his fate.. to walk for evermore clinging stubbornly to the regalia of his former glories...

The effort you put into pencil rendering bg's is crazy.. motivates me to give it a better shot.
Your sketches are almost biblical is style. Amazing scene unfolding btw.
Last colour piece...
Was thinking that her eyes need a fraction more pop, perhaps you could make the bottom lids rounder.. considering the head is on that angle.. and/or give her a tad more white for the whites of the eyes. They're a bit flat at the mo.
Larger range of browns/reds for her leather clothes.. just a little monotone at the moment.
Green LED's on her knee fore-arm arn't working imo.

That drawing with all those figures is insane Ant, as other mentioned it has a biblical feel to it..very classical. The detail is superb.
My belief is that we should all try to learn for ourselves by observation, especially if it's realism we are after or close to it. Obviously your an artist who observes life and understands this.
keep it up man wonderful.

Oh man! I haven't been here in a little while. That battle scene is amazing, so epic. Really nice composition also. Can I ask what materials you used for that?

MindCandyMan - Thanks, always pleasure to hear from you
alti - heh, I'm surprised anyone likes my color stuff actually:)thanks
Aufstieg oben - hehe, I always thought my parents were acting dodgy.
TARGETE - Thanks a lot. I think you are overrating my understandings:). I'm really glad you liked my stuff tho. If someday I'll know even 1/10 of what you know about colors I'll be a happy man.
Groover McNab - Battle is a pencil drawing. Technical 05 HB. smooth and thick paper. A3. Picture is not from corner to corner, I left some room, about 2 cm. Color stuff is PS7
mos667 - cheers! definately do check Weltol stuff out. most amazing and inspirational Korean style paintings.

That is amazing pencil work. Absolutely astounding. Where do you find the patience?
I was wondering a few things:
- How much per day, would you say, you work on your sketches?
- What is your general approach to studies? Do you come in fast and hard on a focused topic, really trying to grasp what it is you wish to draw, or do you take a broader, more relaxed approach? Or, hell, probably something I hadn't even thought of. Your study work is amazing.
- Any chance of some WIPs on maybe a sketch or two? =D
Keep up the awesome work, man. You're an inspiration to us all.

hey ant,
so this is kinda old news (maybe) but i was just oogling your drawings and the old guy walking the weiner dog kinda kept bugging me. i think somethings wrong with the relationship of the upper body to the lower body.. maybe its too big (upper) or something, and the foremost arm also looks a tid outta proportion. and the hips are angled wrong for the placement of that back leg it looks like..
but its all rendered beautifully, and to shift gears, so when you use the sock, what do you usually end up blending on your drawings, faces, etc... i'm looking at acquiring some rubbing techniques and i was wondering if you'd be so kind to share, since you do a gangster job of it.
keep rocking that pencil man, you're on fire

young paddy1 - hehe. thank god soviet union collapsed, otherwise I would be in trouble.
darkcult - :chug:
lavhoes - Thanks mate. How much per day? uhmm.. I have my ups and downs. but usualy after work(3d animation) I draw pretty much till sleep time:)
I'm having some difficulties understanding your second question. But i try to answer what I think you are asking. I think I have a rather relaxed and slow type of process.
About WIPs. Sure. I'll try to do something one day. I actually started to make photos of that battle thing in early stages, but then I kind of lost it. When I'm drawing it's so hard to put the pencil down.. even if I'm hungry or want to go toilet or something:)
siskol p - thanks for the crits. I always appreciate crits.
sorry about the sock. I really didn't expect that someone would take it seriously:) About blending, I mostly use eraser for making some smoother textures.

Oooh Ant mate this is great stuff....mind you I too thought the sock was a strange way of helping you out with your pencil work. I didnt realise you use it to rub your err....paper...
Ok...you can ban me now....;)

Oh, man!
I just realized that I'd only taken a look at the first page of posts in this thread and reacted with "keep up the great work!" based on that, when you'd actually posted even more incredible work on the pages that followed. Dude, I'm left breathless at your drawing ability, and your use of color is equally as superb!
Kudos!!!

like martin lawrence always says :
" OW MA GAWWDD, OW MA GAWDDD ! "
Man that is friggin awesome it looks so alive and so natural. And those life sketches are impressive like hell. How do you do this do you first jot down thin lines for the shape and render those in ? I would love to see you do a piece in steps, for us for learning if you ever find the time please ? Man just great work ! Good luck on you other procedings ... And do you use a technical pencil or , I could not see it that well on the photo, looked like a pen (dumb me)

so yeah i'll say i thought the sock was a bit odd, but i've seen/heard of odder, like my one friend has a spit/ thumb rubbing technique thats quite awkward, so the sock seemed within rational bounds, maybe you should try it out..?? but anyway so eraser huh? kneaded i'm guessing with a dabbing method? then do you just go over again i assume? and do you do it all with mechanical pencil or do you bring say, a graphite stick in there at some point?
the painter pieces are nice, but the shadow on the thrusting blade in the second piece bugs me a bit. and maybe a bit more punch to the metal in the first piece (the girl) but other than those nitpicks, very very gangster sir..
peace,

Manta_Ray - hahah.. yeah. I rub different parts of the body with it.. my toe for start:)
SAMDEL - thanks mate. I'm glad you actually like my color work as well, as I think it's a bit dodgy. but I started working on that as well:)
Jamaludin - your compliments are too good! Ok, I'll try to make a wip some day soon. I think it depends what am I doing, sometimes I do thin and light lines before I shade, sometimes I make big form shades and then go into detail. really depends. In one picture I mostly use only one tool. so mostly it's for example only technical pencil picture or regular pencil one.
SylesDavis - Thank you.
siskol p - yeah, eraser. Don't have any system for that. I go with the flow. Have not used graphite sticks yet. I'm still rather having fun with the drawing, have not gone inventing stuff yet like pro's do. Thanks for the crits again. Crits are definately helping me taking a look from different angle. peace.

Ant, mate!
"Dodgy"? I don't think so. Why would you classify your color rendering that way? If you're thinking that you have to somehow make complicated color mixes in order to prove your worth as an artist, then I put it to you that this is not the case. To the contrary, one mark of a great artist is his/her ability to use basic colors and combine them for optimum effect. I believe that you have accomplished just that in these posts.
"Whipgirl" is beautiful, just as she is. Take it from me, you could actually ruin her if you started trying to get "fancy" with the colors. Same goes it for the dueling swordsmen.
It's perfectly natural that you'll be trying new things all the time. And, it's perfectly natural that the more you experiment, the more experience you will gain about what works and what doesn't. What I'm trying to say is that, while it's always good to expect to improve, you should be content with what you've been able to accomplish thus far, because it's very good work.
I can say this because I'm my own worst critic and I've had to try very hard to accept the fact that some of what I have been able to do is actually not too shabby. It sounds pretty ironic that one need accept one's work (ergo "oneself"), but that's how artists think sometimes. I guess that's one of our many quirks. :D

the art is wonderous, the pure colours, the designs, the movement, the rendering.. most everything is beyond my ability to crit.
I'd even dare to say... master.

it's funny i have been looking for this thread for a long time now. i remember seeing it and loving your work. writing in, but for the life of me i could not remember your name. i even did an extensive search through the sketch book section but that was my problem i did not think to look in this section. well by chance i have found you again and committed your name to memory!
i do not have any criticism, i think you are doing a fantastic job. your color work has grown incredibly. as a matter of fact you seem to be going through a big growth spurt all around. it must be fun and exciting.
some day we will collaborate on something. i think i would be excited to paint any of your drawings.
