Hey man, I'd be glad to give you some feedback.
First off, you don't have the eyes or the mindset just yet. A successful drawing is characterized by the likeness of the object in real life. To do this you A) have to copy the values correctly, not the line. Things in real life are made of value..line is not present.
I think you don't view the things you draw in 3-Dimensions. This was my biggest problem. The way I got over it is to draw a lot of rectangles, spheres, cones and shade them accordingly. If you can get your hands on a Bridgeman book it would benefit you greatly. He teaches the method I'm talking about.
What I'm saying right now is not to discourage you but I definitely think you need to learn to think in 3-Dimensions. This means to consciously keep your mind focused on thinking of "why-it-looks-the-way-it-looks". It's a PAIN at first...seriously a pain but it grows less and less and it just makes sense.
I definitely think you have an eye for illustration but not enough skill yet. Congradulations, you're ahead of millions already haha. You're one of the select few given a talent. Hope to see you improve.
PS: use lead pencils, not mechanical.

Hello Sandeep
I like your comics characters - esp the man with the moustache: his expressions work very well.
Your calligraphy work is very nice and your faces are cool, the eye especially intrieguing.
Nice work :) :)

Watch the heads of your profiled characters, They don't stretch back all the way.
Look up some anatomy, but I think your comic characters are fantastic!

February 19th, 2009, 03:22 PM
hey recent ones are lookin cool ...however i would recommend studying the features and planes of the face to see how they sit on the head...for eg the shape of an eye is not like an almond etc.... basically thinking in terms of 3d....this will give more depth to your heads from imagination....right now they seem pretty flat ... nice attempts though ...hope to see some studies from you .. keep going :)

The vektor atuff is where you are strongest, so you should concentrate on sketching humans and environments with your pencil first. Get the basics right. Go to some life-drawing classes for example.
The tree is lovely, though!

I really like your illustrator work. Your other painting though often feels much less styled and refined. You may want to consider working on a colored background to help you keep your values cohesive. Spend some time working from life as well.

Your sketches are coming along quite nicely. I would like to suggest you to study actual faces. If, you can't sit down with anybody, using a photo reference would do the trick.
Thanks for you comment, btw.

I think my favorite pieces from your first page were the calligraphy-looking ones and the guy and tree that looked like vector art. I think you're really onto something with all these little figure studies near the end though, that's looking good. More more! And definitely keep up with the anatomy studies

Hey, thanks for the comment. I can see your progression pretty well... one thing that I noticed is that when you draw a 3/4 head, you're missing some of the skull on the back side, so it looks really small.. keep it up, keep working at it/

Thank you for droppin' by in the sb.
I like the studies. Although, I'm not sure how you are with
values, but I feel like you and I need to do more of them. :)
Not to overlook the importance and they hold in every picture.
Being able to mold form with values alone is my goal at the moment.
Good luck, and keep up with the studies. Experiments won't hurt also. I try to do them after every serious study time.
To apply everything that comes to mind when I see stuff, and try things out. :)

Great studies! Love all the poses. You're really on the right track. You might want to try incorporating more value work into them. I like to outline the shadows in my figures sometimes to get a feel for the shapes. It's a good exercise.

Love the magnitude of thumbnails and the experimentation of different body types. and don't be afraid to when you color make the image rough. Airbrush is nice for details. Perseverance is key and you have plenty of that. Keep up the good work man.

I love your compositions. you have a great sence for balanced and dynamic composition. But is there any particular reasons why you prefer studies from imagination instead of studies from observation concerning faces and human bodies? In my opinion drawing from imagination is very important, but you should also learn new shapes from observation.
