i was wondering if anyone knows how odd nerdrum painted this hand and head. ive been trying sanding but didnt have good results. he may have used a sponge or something to get those tiny spots im not sure. when i sand, it doesnt blend like his does, it gets sharper. if anyone can help id appreciate it. i wanted this effect for a long time but cant get it. supposedly he doesnt use medium much, and his medium is 50/50 stand oil and turp. derek
here are the pics i want to copy of his.

I'm looking at this image... I've seen his stuff a few times in person, but I'm not totally sure either. From the photo, I would say that it looks as though he's glazing or doing some dry-brushwork over an already dry painting. If it's glazing, then it's just patience as far as oils go. I did a few oil illustrations like that and you have to wait for each layer to dry, etc, etc...

It might be useful to look into the different textures you can get from a palette knife.

What do people think of Odd Nerdrum's "Return of the Sun"?
How does it make people feel and what can one get out if it?
What is Odd trying to imply?
