I just got out of highschool and Im curently attending a Junior college. I've never really known what I've wanted to do until latly, which is art (still pretty vague.) I really want to go to an art school and further my own art. But I havn't a clue were to start in terms of researching a school. Is it as simple as going to the schools and seeing if you like the feel or do I need to try and hunt down alumni and see what kind of work they produced? I live in Oakland CA. so I have a lot of options in my area alone.

An other problem is a large part of me wants to move to Nashville TN. but I need to be enrolled in a school there before I can. Any help is appretiated. Thank you.

You can start by going to http://www.aicad.org to see what's out there. It offers a listing of several art schools by state and major. Take a look at school websites and order a few catalogs if you're so inclined. And if you find a few that interest you, I highly recommend visiting. It'll give you a better sense of the school's atmosphere, and it's really fun. You'll also (most likely) be able to see what sort of work the students are producing, learn about the facilities, etc. etc.

Talking to students and alumni is a good idea if you're able. The last two schools I've attended (different majors), I picked based on reputation. I knew people who went there or knew professors there - as it happened I didn't visit either until I was already enrolled. Even better than getting the admissions department's spiel is talking to people with firsthand experience inside the classrooms.

Okay...we're gonna need to know about the Nashville part here. What's the scoop here? Fess up. Obviously there's a reason or an outlet here that wants to curtail you from getting the best education you can for yourself here.

Epitaph – you owe it to yourself and your significant other to get an education that will be beneficial to the both of you for your entire lives. Be very careful that you don’t screw the both of you in the long run by doing what’s convenient for the present.

The old adage of "if you can't take care of yourself, what good are you to anyone else?" comes into play here. Seedling's dead on (as always) about getting the best education for yourself first and then evrything else comes second. If a relationship is meant to last forever, these few years for your education will be a drop in the bucket. Your investment into your education will last a lifetime as well.
