this is for a comission. guy wants a long, banner type, image of a gnomish healer standing over a "hawt hurt warrior babe" and healing her. so i don't have much room to be creative with the camera. at the moment, is there anything glaringly wrong with the poses? i don't even know what gnomes are supposed to look like. the gnome is supposed to be shy or something, and therefore not looking at her hawtness. she'll probably end up being more scantilly clad in the end, even though it grates me, since it's so unrealistic. ah well. what i do for money. i was debating whether she should be just lying down, or lurching up like i have her here.
thoughts?

Good, good. I'd like to see a version with the "hawt babe" sort of floating just above the ground lurching up a bit. Gnomes in my mind and from what I've heard have beards and are very similar to dwarves, but my European mythology is limited to the warcraft series and a few books.

Gnomes are indeed supposed to be related somewhat to dwarves. This gnome looks more gobliny. If you want to see what a gnone looks like, crack open a Dungeons and Dragons player handbook or watch Laberynth(sp?). The main character's guide in that movie is a really good reference for a gnome.

ok, i got the first payment, so i'm moving ahead with this.
here's my sketch of the gnome. i wanted to keep the sort of warrior healer look, but i think i made him look more gnomish and less goblinish. i might have to fatten him up, though... :/ we'll see.

ok, people hit me with thoughts on the woman and any final thoughts on this guy.

With opened eyes this guy looks like he is afraid to see what he does. :) If he is supposed to look like he is concentrating then I think he should be painted with closed eyes. (and not with that worried look)
Anyway this is just my 2 cents...

Perhaps he should be a bit plumper, and I still think the girl should be lurching upwards and floating in the air sort of with a b it of mist around her. Just my thoughts ;) The gnome face is looking good though and the warrior/healer works well too.

i just composited them together real quick. drawing them separately. cuz it's all in pencil, and that gives me flexibility when i do the actual composition.

Shes not as lifted as your earlier thumb. It looks better when her upperchest is lifted up more and her head tilting back more too. Makes her look more lifeless.

Hey there, this is looking great. Nice potential!
I agree with Chaser, I can picture this in my mind with a bigger arch to her back. Really exaggerate it and give the impression that she's suspended by an invisible cord attached to her upper chest, holding a lot of her weight up... that cord being the Gnome's magic in this case. If you apply that idea to her whole body, I think you'll get great results.
The lower body below the chest is pretty much in keeping with that idea, but her neck is a little bit of a problem -- it's way too long. Also, if you lean your head back in that position, you'll notice the back of your head should hit or almost hit your upper back, and that's how her head should be. The collar design might interfere with her face once the head is repositioned, and that might be part of the unconscious or conscious justification for the current position. I think it'd look 100% better with the correct length and natural position.
I really like this image. I had such a great mental vision of the finished painting that I had to comment. Post the finished image when completed, please! :)

cool drawing the two elements come together nicely for having drawn them separately. One thing though - why is he covering his eyes?

hey. is this effect worth pursuing? i kind of like it, but i could easily see someone thinking it's cheesy. thoughts?
sorry i'm going so slow on this. i keep getting distracted.

here are some base colors. i always prefer realistic colors when i do fantasy. which usually makes every thing pretty dull since most people wore leather back then... which was brown.

looking good so far.
but the hair of the "hawt hurt warrior babe" is being a bit bleh ;)
its like its cut off, i know i know tis supposed to be spread on the ground but thats not really portrayed well enough imo. i also tink her stomach might be a bit too short, or her breast start too far up ^^
post more :P

zeroe. i guess i can see that about the stomach... but i think it's negligible at best. i do, however, happen to like how the hair turned out. :/
ok. now i really just need to know which looks better. the effect one is kinda cool and stuff... but now i think it looks more like he's averting his eyes from the light, instead of her. :/ i dunno. someone choose for me.

2nd one w/o a doubt, the atomshperic glow simply is more appealing and was more work.
