These look very nice, you do a good job of simplifying the shapes of the trees, something ims struggling with myself atm. Are they all done on overcast days? Here in NYC we have ridiculously blue skies all the time it seems.

Keep em comin'!

Yes, One was actually raining on me, had to use a large umbrella. The second one was actually a nice sunny day just had a lot of cloud cover.

Thanks for the input.

Ah great! You have posted some more! That hazy sun struggling through the clouds is marvelously realised in a completely pictorial way - a formal, constructive bit of invention to try and make something out of a fleeting phenomena. I love the quiet way you see something and 'make something out of it' as a costructed pictorial piece of geometry yet retain its lyracism and thereby its intensity.
You really ought to submit something down on the 'fine art nominations thread' since these are not just studies but real, inventive works of your own.

Timpaatkins,
Ha, tricks... Funny. All I can really say about that is focus on good design and composition. Design in a painting isn't just about the whole image. I like everything to "speak" of who it is. For example, a Palm tree says something different than a Pine, and each Palm or Pine that is saying something has it's own particular statement. Your goal IMO should be to "reflect","depict","translate" THAT one particular thing in shape, texture, and order of importance in the overall "statement" of the painting.
By the way, A painting doesn't have to just say one thing... I prefer a conversation with many participants all respecting one another.:)

Timpaatkins, I forgot the palette although it's nothing special:

White,Yellow,Red,Blue,Raw Umber, one cool and one warm mid value gray that I mix myself.

Nice to see what you've been up to lately. Perhaps we can head out sometime and knock out a few plein air studies.

Hope to see some more!

Aren't you allergic to the sun, wind, and elements??:D

Definately!

Sorry I've wanted to send a "real" e-mail or perhaps stop by, too busy running around like a chicken with it's head chopped off. OTF(out there floppin')

I'll probably get out at least once this weekend if weather permits, if not then next Wednesday would be great.

Look for an e-mail Thurs. or Fri.

If I emerge from my cave (studio) my eyes will have to adjust to all that light and I’ll need slather on the SPF—but I might be able to manage.

OTF, hah! Love it.

Nice paintings. I looked at them and instantly said to myself it looks like someone else in Florida. So you must have done something right to capture the flavor of the landscape here.

That last one is looking nice ! You captured the subtle green hue shifts in there.
Tight value range too. I like it

Is it possible to post them a little bit bigger?

Art Addict:
Thanks, and yes a tight value range is something I was really trying to achieve in this. It seems to enhance the cohesive feel of an image. I post them this size so the overall impact is there. I'll post a bigger one for you.

yoyo, nice update! I'm trying to tighten my value range too, real difficult though... do you ever work larger? My pleine air stuff is usually 16x20, maybe thats why I screw up and am all over the place... Do you have a fave pl. a painter? I'm looking alot at Corot now, didn't like him much before, but NOW, Wow he blows my mind! Ill regive you my request of larger images too!

Cheers Tim

Thanks, less ground to cover means more time to make decisions so I always work small out of the studio. Ok, when I can I'll post a bigger version.
A short list is Scott Christensen, Matt Smith, and Jean LeGassick, all living artists.
