film schools

i was thinking about going to grad school for film--possibly on the west coast. Ive heard good things about the san francisco art institute and i know art center is a good school. ...

does anyone have any opinions/thoughts on schools for film? -ty

hey thanks alot negative!!! yea im familiar with most of those--ugh so many good schools over there for film....

i guess i was thinking art center because they have such good traditional art depts there--the film portfolio work on their site looked pretty good)

i guess thats partly the reason im posting this...how the hell would you decide which film school is the best...anyone got any experience out there? all the high profile schools are expensive....so what sets them apart from eachother?

i've heard a few respectable film makers say that its better to take the money you would use on going to film school and use it to make your own movie, especially now with digital cameras and dvd burners. just another point of view to consider...

Hey there tyboogie..

Little bias here, but I graduated from USC in the Fine Arts dept, but I did a lot of cross campus elective film classes.

I can tell you that USC is pretty good on keeping up with the technology of the Film industry. They also have a lot of guest speakers and previews of feature films. Spielberg, Lucas, and Coppola contribute their input as they are chairmen of the school..

I've heard you learn quite a bit and the success rate is up to you in the end I suppose.. Much like every other industry, its your hard work and who you know..

One of our grads directed Donnie Darko.

But USC ( mascot: trojans) really believes in its trojan family, and there are a lot of film grads spread out in the industry already..
