Ok im new to Painting with photoshop (just a heads up). I am having trouble understanding how to go from step 3 to step 4. I know that you have to paint under the line drawing first but then in step 4 it looks like they are painting on another layer over the line drawing layer. Is that what you are supposed to do? Please help!!!

i dont think, in the tutorial, that they are painting underneath the painting at all :\ . i mean it looks like they are always painting above the line art, because at one point the lineart disappears. but i think thats personal preference... if you want to keep the lineart, you definitely need to define it more than it is in the tutorial... so use the tutorial as a rough guide, but dont think of it as a concrete road. hope that helps :) good luck

I would suggest only to paint above the line layer. At the end you don't want lines to be seen now do you? The first painting step can be done in multiply mode, then create another normal mode layer and start painting with variations of opacity. Whenever you feel that you need more detailing or refinement of your painting strokes, then create another layer atop of the rest and work from there.
