So between moving and lots of other things I've been out of things for a while. But it's time to get back on track.

Interceptor, if you're readin' this, thanks buddy. I know I haven't seen you in ages but you remain an inspiration and that's partly why I'm doing this. So thanks. :)

Anyway, less talk more rock. Ref'd from a Michelangelo Sistine Chapel painting.

And to really kick things off, a little dump from the sketchbook studies, mostly working out of Bridgman at the moment.

Quick 30-ish minute enviro sketch, kinda lost track of what I wanted to do halfway through, but fun anyhow. Will probably come back to this one.

Another 30 minute environment sketch before I leave for work. Might tool around with touching up both of these tonight after I get back tonight. I really like where this one is going but it's still way rougher than I hoped at this point.

It's a shame you don't get any comments :(
I like the bridgeman studies. Some nice stuff in there. The enviroments are coming along, but you have gotta stop leaving them 30 minutes in! :P

Hey there, thanks for dropping by, little pressed for time with work lately (holiday retail) but you're right. I'll definitely try to squeeze extra time into these things. :)

Dropped another 30-40 minutes into pushing yesterday's enviro. Hoping to get some gestures or other doodles squeezed into today's lunch break.

Small update tonight, fleshed out the beach for a while more. Probably calling this one for the moment.

Hey,

Great, lots of studies! They are definatly progressing as you are going, as in the first few the gestures were very small with wide hips ( remember 7 1/2 feet tall as Bridgman explains, but you sorted out that problem in later studies ), your on the right track.
For the digi enviroment, good stuff also, just watch the very hard edges on the rocks.

Keep it up man, I'l hopefully be able to pop in again!

Thanks Hurley, I'll keep those in mind. :) Didn't notice how the rocks stick out like that, I think I need to get in the habit of flipping the canvas more to catch that stuff.

For today, a little Halloweeny sketch before I start anything serious for the day.

Today's work is naturally a Self-Portrait for Self-Portrait day.

Thanks, lema, will do.

I promise I'm still chugging along, but the scanner is being screwy won't be able to post anything non-digital til I get that sorted out. Start of another enviro.

Some pen and marker sketches from my lunch break at work yesterday. Still not used to the markers, but I'm liking them so far. I liked the cutout-ish composition of the big sketch so second up is this morning's tinkerings on a variation.

Nice stuff, keep at it as you are doing and youll be fine.
You should really put some effort on practicing with very simple shapes and lighting them, like boxes, spheres and cylinders, some parts of your work look flat, and this practice will allow you to add more illusion of depth. Try reading andrew loomis books, creative illustration is my favourite of them all, check it out, and keep posting!.

Thanks guys, I'll set myself up with some kind of shading exercise as soon as I can find a decent light source to set up with some paper cubes and things.

Busy week at work so only two pages for now. Did a little digital sketching and thumbnailing last night but forgot to save them, that was dumb. So just these for now. I like waterfalls. Need to think more about perspective next time maybe, the buildings are leaning.

I like your stuff (better than mine) but i think you should do some shading on the human studies too because you never seem to do them
