Base Color, Screen Color

Awhile back, I found this image somewhere:

It's a pretty neat way to establish warm skin tones and it got me to thinking: Has anyone done this with other colors? I mean, it starts with a somewhat dull brown, and uses a rich red set to screen to get this great range. I've tried to a similar technique with greens and blues, but the results are usually unsatisfying. Any thoughts?
