obviously inspired by the environments done by the black isle artists (vance kovacs, namely), just a few skill levels lower and a bit more high key (i was aiming for a sunlit look)

that's cool, what brush did you use on the trees?
I suggest you find some old cottage pics for research and look at the colors... this looks great but the colors could be really really nice... it's hard to do sunlit

I love the tiny concept environment pieces.
4 things hit me with this.
* The background is too muddled and distracting to the centerpiece. Isolate the whole tile more by making the blue very simple or even just making it gray. It will help change the other colors too.
* I like the small cut away section of the hill on the right. But I think it should be darker. Define the whole silhouette of the tile, perhaps just the bottom section with a black line. Or at the least sharpen it up. The fence just trails off into the void too, it's breaking the illusion.
* Texture - The roof needs some more strands defined, you start to give it some around the front edge, more color variation in the main body. Different patches in the grass. Vary the foliage of the trees from tree to tree or at least slightly different than the grass.
* Add variation - It's the small details that count with concept art and the ones that usually stick out as the best. Twist the dirt path to the door or make it irregular slate tiles. Add a patch to the roof. Lean some tools against the left of the front door. Open the doors and let us see something inside. Some more tools or a bench. Or a hint at a horse stall just inside. These are just suggestions, do a Google search for different elements to get ideas.
It would be cool to see a whole series of these chunked out of the ground in small tiles. Keep it up
:)
