ever since deciding to not return to art college, my creating has dwindled down to none. i only ever doodle in class. i'm not going to brag or anything of course when surrounded by such talent here, but i WAS awesome. if i had have continued, i could well be on my way to supporting myself with just my art. but for whatever reason (lack of determination, apathy, etc etc) i have stopped. i'm really trying hard to get back to drawing 3 pages a day.

what happens when you go through a dry spell? Was my whole childhood until only a few years back, where my whole life was devoted to art, a waste? can i become the artist i think i was meant to be?

Yes.

I think many artists go through "dry spells". I am going through one right now, due to family. The best thing to do is to try to stay in practice whenever you can, even if you're not very productive.

i take biology now, and it's like, everytime i want to draw i feel like i should just be studying regression or succession theory or histological processes

and it's like, now that i'm not at sheridan anymore, i'm not 'legit' and won't be.

What's the point of doing something you don't want to do? It's not about being an artist, it's about enjoying it. Do you enjoy biology more? What's wrong with being a biologist?

Also, you can get rusty but you can't unlearn things (at least without drugs or head trauma :P)

Yeah, if you don't really want to do it, don't. If you put all of your time into doing things you don't really want to do, you will wake up one day and realize all of the other things you could have been doing. All of the good times you might have had were spent, instead, doing something that you regret. Art is about passion, and enjoying every minute of it.

IF you enjoy it though, and you are only having a hard time because of other things, you just have to push through it sometimes. I know that once in a while (more often then that, really) I have times where I don't feel motivated. I tell myself to push through it and that the motivation will come. Eventually it does and I feel better.

Don't let yourself get burned out. I'm by far not the most knowledgeable person on any of this, but I think you have to learn your own limits and boundaries and learn how to push those.

Flex the muscle, stretch the muscle, build the muscle, and grow your little muscle garden.

Whether it be drawing, biology, whatever.

By the way, drawing from your biology book wouldn't be a bad idea. Get some studying in and some drawing in. It may even help you remember some things. Who knows.
