Is this a daft idea?

Everybody needs refs, and everybody has photos; but we don't all have the same photos. Would it be insane to suggest that people couold make requests for refs somewhere on here, and other people could supply non-copyrighted refs?

Not everybody has a baby or a horse or a dog or a bird or a person in a particular pose or old photos like in the Know Your Heritage thread that they can use for reference.

That is a good Idea, but I think there is already a photo reference section on this site under the photography section, but I don't think it has anything like what you suggested.
