After watching Hawk's "release of pressure" over the last few days, and now with the .avi he posted up, I had to try some sketches Hawk-style.

This one's about 30 minutes worth of noodling...I know it's nearly a straight rip-off of his themes and style, but that's the point -- to learn from his technique.

I'm DEFINITELY no Hawkprey, but here goes:

Anybody else give his style a try? If so -- post 'em here. I'd love to see others' take on it.

(ps - if this pisses you off, Hawk, say the word and it's gone.)

Hmm it does remind me of how he works but personally i wouldnt try to copy his style directly, maybe apply the principles to your own imagination, this kinduv thing is good for practice.

I was thinking about hawkprey's concepts and although they are incredible, technically I was wondering they were drawing(no pun intended) so much attention.

I think it's because he puts a lot of attitude into his characters. It's the way he poses them, they might seem like they are standing there but it's very easy to imagine them moving.

You can look at almost every concept of his in that last thread and find a word to define the emotion of the characters. I think that's most important in creating something in that style. Make a character that's taunting someone to try and fuck with them. Or one that looks so tortured you wouldn't want to be near them.

Good points, guys. I've been enjoying the freedom of sketching this way and having the results turn out with a line quality and style that I like.

Porkasaurus, you're right on about why his concepts are so popular -- they're raw and original.

Maybe I'll post a few more of these sketches soon.
