Hello there everyone, I've been around here for quite some time but now it's time to post some work.
I recently made the transition from Industrial Design to concept art, and actually (thanks to CA) found a job at the last SF workshop). I also have a photography thread, so stop by and check it out if you get a chance.
Coming from ID, I have literally no painting experience - so I'm attempting to do some speedies to try to learn more about color and loosening up.
Check it out and let me know what you think. Thanks -

1hr: canoeing
- I wanted to have some texture in this one - I'm pretty happy with it but the texture might be too heavy.

1hr: mountains
- I know my people in here are terrible. I need to sit down and draw people sometime
220596
20min: pirate cove
- I was pretty happy with this one considering it went so fast. I'll hopefully take this one further someday.

1hr: stream
- perspective issues and I struggled with this one throughout the time limit.

1hr 15min-ish: submarine
- I love drawing spaceships and vehicles of all kinds - so this is obviously the strength of this one. I'm trying to stay away from 'designing' anything on some of these so I can focus on color and value. I was happy with the way this one came out though.

1hr: canyon
- I was feeling overly ambitious after a smooth sailing previous speedie and intended this to be an air race... didn't quite get to the ships - maybe with more practice.

45min-ish: waterfront
- I was doing some sketches on the train and based this on of one of them. I feel the thumbnail was stronger. (I don't have a scanner)

I was playing around with traditional media today, did a quick marker and pen sketch, photographed it and took it into psd for a paint job. I wanted to get a worn out copper looking body.
The original sketch is about 1/2 the size of a letter page - on copy paper.

I thought the background and atmosphere needed some help, so I spent a little more time on this one.

Here is a sketch I did out on one of the piers in San Francisco - pretty much just pen and pencil - a little marker but I only had a 30% gray. I took it home and painted it up in photoshop. After I did the sketch, I took a photo of the scene for color reference.

Also - I just went to GDC this past week and figured I should do some more organic stuff. Here is a portrait study and another attempt at learning color - I did this the other day based on an image from a photo shoot I did about a year ago.
