comments and crits welcome. I'm probably mostly done with them but i'd still like to hear what you have to say.

oh one more thing. Its got problems and i didnt like the way it turned out but then again she is half naked. http://champion.sslsecure.com/artofbrandon/mrsmith/images/stripper.gif

Damn, Smith, yer the voodoo daddy version or Brute!, but cooler. DRIPS style and N'awlens vibe all over the place. (whoop *CRASH* slipped on yer goodness, there)

And whazzup with that crazy avatar? Please, it looks like your work in these pieces, enquiring minds must know! :)

All who see this thread: observe mr. Smith's great cinematic perspective at work. Learn and be SCHOOLED!

Awesome stuff, I really like the second one much better than the first. Death is Death, and he's looking pretty killer.

At first glance the background in the first one looks like a party (stringed lights, shape of the moon, people dancing, etc.). Not sure if its supposed to be one, or if its people dying or zombies milling about. It's a little confusing, yet its a sweet drawing.

I like the first piece, it has a very different feel. The second piece, however, is instantly recognizable as yours and looks fuggin' killer, man... I can wholeheartedly declare this "the shit".

woohoo! thanks for the replies, boys and girls. im starting to think the first one isnt quite done. might add some texture, or define the background a little more.

chromo: supposed to be more of a party, but it could be a zombie party, who knows. trying to get a sense of energy.

atomick; if only i did the avatar. its from a queens of the stone age video. http://wwww.shynola.com

thanks again!

hey smith, i really like that red black posative/negative thing you been doing lately, and I was pondering how you would take it to the next level. Im not sure how right off, but I really think you should persue it.

cool stuff :)

MrSmith:

Man, these are very excellent. I've a personal affinity for monochromatic/2-color vector art, and it makes up a considerable amount of my "work." The top rendering has a kick ass perspective, and it's cool to see the New Orleans influence in your art...it's not something we see around here much (but neither is monochromatic/2-color vector art...heh).

love the first one, the second one is cool but so generic.

I like the cliche one better actually, maybe because of the red and black combo ;) My favorite colors

thanks folks, i've always had a perverse love of the cliche and generic! my thinking on the second one was that i didn't want to "reimagine" it too much, and i was trying for a "ultimate" death or paying homage to the classic Death imagery. i went in a different direction for the first one though

The Card of death has nothing to do with actual death (unless upside-down). It's a sign of change, the rebirth of your soul (the death of the old self). So a celebration would be appropriate.

And to add irony to it, the card of death often stands for an important artistic creation after a struggle, that can lead to a new life and more artistic projects to come.

Plus, there's always time for a Celebration ;)

Though some may say that the second one is better drawn. The first one is BY FAR superior, if it were actually for a tarot deck. Fact is "death comes to everyone" (as conveyed in the The Waite/Smith decks) so you might as well embrace it :)
