Nightmare of the Week - part 7

topic: Living Dead

Deadline:31th October - Halloween Night

Background:
This is going to be creepy one. Time to look closer into one of the deepest fear of humanity – dead people walking alive. It’s totally crazy idea when you think about it during daylight but is getting more sense when it comes to your mind at midnight. Starting from Marry Shelley’s novel ‘Frankenstein’ and followed by numerous movies starting from George Romero’s famous ‘Night of the Living Dead’ and it’s sequels, ‘Brain Dead’ and more recent movies like ‘Land of the Dead’ or ‘28 days after’ made that zombie became one of the pop icon. ‘Zombie survival’ book by Max Brooks and many of the websites explains how to survive upon total world zombie invasion. But even showing them in full light doesn’t make them less disturbing. Dead man should be buried six feet bellow and when somehow manage to come back it brings the worst nightmare no matter what caused it – magic, virus or scientific experiment.

Requirements:
Imagine you’re game designer or movie story boarder and you’re given a task to make a concept of a dead men walking alive. But don’t place them on white background – prepare whole scenery – or just suggest it - and compose them whit it. It might be just some unsetting vague shapes walking in the fog, covered with spider webs skeleton lurking in the night or blood soaking character in full light – it’s up to you.
You can choose fantasy style also.
But most important: I don’t want to see zombies we all know from movies or games.
Try to think something new, some different approach. Use your imagination and release your deepest fears. Horror should be some kind of katharsis.

interesting topic manuel, so it has to be human, it has to be a form of living dead, but it cant be usual zombie that we see in all the movies and games. Ouch!! this could be tough one. Does this also mean no characters similer to the living dead in halflife2 (the ones with the aliens on their heads) or the nemesis?
BTW brain dead has got to be one of the best astralian films ever, let alone one of the best zombie films.

You can follow those traits - do what concept artists from Valve or Capcom did with traditional zombies but don't copy their ideas.
And beware - those characters from HL2 or nemesis are very close to mutants and that is quite different category ;)

Just trying to support this activity, this is my 2 hour submission. Doesn't satisfy the requirements, but here it goes nonetheless. Edit: Manuel, I mentioned that it doesn't satisfy the requirements because on the NOW description is mentions no white BG, that the zombie must be place on a scenary. Anyways, I'll see if I can fix it later.

fughi from yuggoth - eating his own brain - man, that's sick but that's what this thread is for ;)
Maestro Andres - why do you say it doesn't satisfy requirements ? It's dead, gross and creepy and it's perfect for Halloween night when this activity will come to an end.
Ostrander - I must admit I'm anxious to see you entry. This topic was made for you ;) master of the living dead :D

I love the walking dead! (In a non-sexual way, I'm not a necrophilia ffs! :P)

Maybe I'll do something for this.

Hm, you're right.

Soooo... you're suggesting I should go out to the nearest cemetary and try it out? :dur:

Hmmm, something new. Hard to do.
Well here is my take. I am sure it was done before but here you go.

It had been almost a year since Mark had dumped his wifes body in the lake, but he still remembered that look.
She was pissed.

Hey great self portrait, don't forget to post it on the international self-portrait day thread :P j/k

Now, seriously, good job man, nice details and texture on the skin. Might not look like the most original one, but you really bring the life out of the undead.

Oh looking at these entries made me remember a song by one of my favorite bands. "Exquisite dead guy rotating in his display case. Exquisite dead guy, I swear I saw his mouth move. Exquisite dead guy outside my highrise apartment. Exquisite dead guy, hanging from a sky hook."

On a side note, any chance you'll finish that pic manny? I have a picture of it in my head complete. Lots of copper or bronze 18th century medical style exoframe hooked up to a tube dynamo thing full of electric eels, on wheels. Eels on wheels. Yeah.
