I thought I would share the latest image that I am working on for myself. The end product will show a great battle with war witches caught in a fierce struggle against dark creatures flooding out of the toppled cathedral.

C & C is more than welcome. Thanks for letting me share.

the atmosphere sure is sweet. But one thing that bothered me, is the rocks. the rocks look way too organized. There the same size, same shading. Kinda dull. Make some harder and bigger, some smaller and thinner.. and it would add more realism..

just my two balls.

this thing is sweet.

only thing i see is that the rocks look too soft and the clouds/smoke looks to solid. you know what i mean?

anyway, great idea.

Hey hey hey. Here's a quick update. I did a few more hours on it today.

Seems to be shaping up a lot better thanks to the great advice.

This is really cool. The toppled building made me a little ditdisoriented, but its a good effect. Definately a good job.

Nice atmosphere and sense-of-place you're creating!

I'm a little confused by the width of the bridge vs. the width of the tower entrance... and it's sortuv hard to register whether the entrance stops at the edge of the cliff or continues outward toward us more. I'm guessing that it stops, but the shadows on the cliff wall need to be addressed to communicate that properly.

Elsewhere... when distinguishing the foreground from the background, make sure that any darks or lights in the back don't suddenly shift near the edge of the fore... That is, take care that you don't let a structures edge influence the form that lies behind it. There's this sort of beveled effect that you've got around the background just beyond the tower... see what I mean? It looks like the background is popping forward.
I don't know if I'm making myself understandable.:D

Very beautiful. Thanks for sharing it.

One thing - when water and lava contact, it tends to make a very solid, dense plume:

As it is, the area where the stream actually hits to lava isn't really clear - I guess it's just vaporized before it gets there. Also, the lava seems kinda like a game texture - flat and tiled. Doesn't really fit with the outstanding detail in the rest of the image. Keep the bubbles, but add some texure to the solid stuff, like this:

Yes, it is a 3d rendering, but it illustrates what I mean. Or, you could add 'plates' of frozen rock lifting up, maybe, if you wanted more motion.

Love that detail!
