It's been far to long since I've posted anything. My home computer shit the bed a while back and I still haven't fixed it.

Thought I would post some stuff from life. These are from a open session. 20 minute gouache figure studies.

Wow! These are looking good. I like your use of color and value.

I would never dare those bright colors on a figure. Great technique, and very well executed.

How long did you spend on each study, and where did you do these btw?...

...Leaves to go check your website...

Comes back....

Hey, you need to post your paintings and studys lot more. The ones on your site are so full of delicious color. So good, you just want to eat some of em.

I have a small question for you on gouache. Ive tried it out once or twice, and Its some of the most opaque and flat paint ive seen. How do you approach a study, or painting with it? Do you dilute it, or use it straight from the bottle(after mixing it)?

O!

Once i mix the color I want I lay down the color fairly thick. at least it's thick for gouache. I tend to stay away from soupy washes since these are done fairly quick. I tend to lean toward dry brush that way it's dries fast and I can keep moving forward.
I do a quick drawing with the paint. Gesture style then I start laying down big chunks of color, then smaller chucks and so on.
here's a few gestures with gouache so you get the idea of how I start.

Very good stuff - I personally like from the studies the first two most. You´ve got very good control over colour. Maybe my next technique will be gouache instead of oil - at least it´s cheaper ;).

Post more, you´ve got a good style going!
