Howdy folks, I finally finished this piece! I'm happy with the way it came out, and relieved that i finally finished it. I'm thinking of submitting it to Games Workshop. I would really like to work for them.

Wacom & Photoshop 7.

Please tell me what you think.
C & C always welcome.

Hi Dresden

the first thing that came into my mind when I saw this pic was that his neck really must hurt the way heīs holding the gun ;). I would recommend putting the chin behind the shaft of the weapon. Furthermore his right hand is holding the weapon quite "delicate" and not as you would grip something with a recoil. Furthermore I fimnd it slightly disturbing that his left arm/hand is missing - he looks a bit crippled (maybe you want to achieve this ...).

The rendering and style is good and reminds me of some of the WH artists, esp. when they published Necromunda some years ago. Afaik it would fit into the style GW is doing.

BTW I personally think working for GW is overrated - I got into direct contact with them when they tried to establish business here in Germany. The work there is quite restricted and they arenīt paying very well. One of the reasons why many good artists and miniaturists often just work for a short term with them.

Thanks for the crits Fipse.
i'm going to change the chin to the other side of the shaft. I don't know what i was thinking when i did that, i guess i wanted to be able to see him scream.
i'll fix the arm as well. Tha left arm is not suppost to be there, i was going for the hurt look. that 's why his resting his gun on the rock.

Thanks alot for the pointers. Really appreciated

Well nobody in 40K can shoot a gun without screaming, so it's understandable. I guess that's why they can't hit stuff beyound 50 yards :)

Cool drawing, but do fix the chin.

Dresden, I like the idea of this piece a lot. This guy in a war torn city fighting. I hope this helps, I tried to illustrate 2 things.

Broke out the background so it was lighter and less contrast than the foreground, the gun seemed to be getting lost. If you were thinking this was night time, reverse the contrast, make the foreground lighter.

I made a second overlay layer and just added some highlight areas to simulate light coming from the muzzle. It makes the foreground more dimensional and adds a little more drama.

Hope I didn't step on your toes.

Yes. The chin makes the head look flat. Like he's wearing a cardboardmask or something.

Otherwise I like it. Rendering is good.

I heard the same stuff about GW as Fipse said. Though if you're not planning to work long there it could be a great learning experience. If I have to name one artist which works for GW i have to name John Blanche. He did some great work back then. Don't know what the're up to now.

The manner of holding the weapon you had in the original image is correct. The stock blocks the face partially.

Here's a ref pic:

Everything else I can think of has already been said by people before me.
