Hey all,
Ive been looking and reading at this forum for ages and ive decided to join you to in making digital art.
This will be my first digital creation ever, i hope you guys and girls like it. Ok its NOT a concept for something, its just something i made without reference and with alot of pain from handeling the tablet for a long period of time :)
Atleast i had fun making it.
I will contribute to this forum more later on, it will take me sometime tho :)

Your digital work is very, very, very impressive for a first-timer. I've been doing digital art on and off for the past five months and I havent gotten anywhere near as good as you are at shadows and highlights. (Of course, I have no tablet either).
Anyway, I really hope you werent going for realism here. Something tells me she is supposed to look kindof funky. The massive lips and eyes frighten me. :p

what was the point of not using reference. it doesnt look real at all

Well yes, i didnt use a refference because i wasnt going for realism.
First i wanted to make it more manga/anime like but then i wanted to see how far i could go with some realness ( not looking at the proportions ) :) somehow it turned out quite good and gave me a good training in using the tablet and photoshop.
The next time i can do it alot faster if i wanted to.
And btw thanks for the compliment.

I'm sorry to say this but i don't think this is the correct forum for you to be posting art like this.
There are other forums meant for amateur artists and ones for fans of manga/anime.

1. regardless of what you may have heard, anime is NOT a good place to start with art
2. if you are learning to paint you must use references, otherwise you'll get a bad pic and and a bad public image
"Well yes, i didnt use a refference because i wasnt going for realism." is one of the lines you should never use.
you might have good intentions but you started off the wrong foot. get a good book, or even better, get someone to teach you if you can. it's a long way to go

well... you need to do life drawing. i know it sounds painfull and its sooo boring, but you cant expect to get very far unless you have a strong understanding of how it all works. i didnt want to accept this fact for a long time, because i was so focused on fantasy. just sit down for a few hours a day and draw things from life, maybe take some figure drawing classes if you can.

Has anyone actually gone through all these posts and read all this stuff as if you were this guy. Oh man, I dont even want to think about what I would have said had I been in his position. :evilbat:
I was scrolling with anticipation to see what your reply would be. Congrats on not flipping out :waves:

What did your mom feed you when you were a child?
You are truly unbelievable for not taking offense.
Congrats on the fantastic spirit you show JayPee!
You deserve to post here...but don't make it a habit as you still need a lot of practice. Show it in the work in Progress section and you might get more constructive criticism.
Glad to have you aboard mate.
