Hey liningel, Blogger doesn't allow hotlinking, so your images aren't showing up. You can attach them to your post directly by clicking on edit, then go advanced, then using the "paperclip" icon.

Good looking artwork. Reminds me a lot of cheeks-74. Keep posting and welcome to the neighborhood. Just don't feed the Mankey or Elwell's...they bite.

Thanks for the comments guys. Here is another design I did a while back. Trying to re-design the characters from Akira. When I have time off work, i will design the rest of them, and probably push it a little more.

hey, not too familiar with akira, but love the style. id really like to see more of that, and encourage you to steer away from the top style as it is quite similar to cheeks. not putting you down at all, you just have a great unique style going on with the akira stuff.

Hey guys, thank you so much for the comments. The cheeks influence stuff is pretty much just a study of his style, mixed in with a little of my own characteristics/fashion or what not. I definitely see it as only a phase, but I really enjoyed drawing those 2 characters. (Gives me a break from the restrictions of design at work.) I take alot of inspiration from his line work and color, and want to learn it to aid myself create something unique.
More to come soon I promise.
Cheers.

The muscular black character is raw. These have potential to blaze the canvas.

Thanks alot, glad to know you guys also enjoy this style. I was under so much pressure while I was studying to re-create hyper-real images because it seemed impressive to people. I realized, i just couldn't do it. Then I decided to do it the way I want, but keep the principles of the story to create interesting characters.
Well, enough blabbing on. More work to come soon.

So, back to the Akira project. A redesign of Tetsuo. He was probably my favorite character, and to change anything about him was hard, since it was so good to begin with. Well, I gave it a shot for fun. Changed some colors, clothing, and defined the shapes a little differently. Enjoi!

Yeaaa
You really rock the canvas! Do you use 3d models or is this done only in PS???
Cheers and keep it up!!!!
linigel
May 20th, 2008, 03:32 PM
Thanks! I dont use any 3-d models. I have done so before, but I feel it looses life and gesture. These were all concepted in pencil on like, napkins and reciepts, then re-drawn in PS. Just push the gestures as much as you can, and make sure you keep the volume of the character by drawing simple shapes like spheres, squares and rectangles.
