Hello ConceptArt.org!

I have never really painted before and recently I have been wanting to learn how to paint. Unfortunatley, I have no idea what type of paint I should use first or even the materials that I will need.

So I guess what I am asking is what materials and what kind of paint would I need if I am just starting out to learn how to paint? Also is there any exercises I should try out or books I should read to help me learn?

Paper, pencil.

It's almost impossible to give advice as we haven't seen your work and have no idea where you are currently nor do we know which media you are planning to use..

It might help you to take a beginning painting class at a community college or where ever their is one. At least it might introduce you to various painting mediums and methods so you can get started and figure out what you like best.

Ultimately its really up to you. I cannot tell you what is best. You are really gonna have to do some research, visit some galleries/museums, look at art books, browse the web, and find stuff you really like. Look up various artists you really admire and find out what kind of medium they used, techniques, style and see if you can try it yourself.
