ok, please go easy on me...I'm really nervous as hell posting on this forum....I'm really intimidated by the talent here.

I took one of my old sketches and decided to paint over it....bare in mind I wasnt going for realism here..(maybe on my next one) and it was a toonish sketch to begin with.

more or less just a practice exercise to tryout different techniques, thus the muddled stroke patterns....
I could spot many other flaws long before it ever reached this state, but I was determined to finish a thought...even though I really wanted to move on to something else..

comments appreciated.

thanks for the replies....
honestly I didnt think I could pull off realism, I dont think I 'm good enough yet...and the origininal sketch is very comic book style, its on my site if you want to see.

hell, realism is easy if you have good reference. find some and get crackin', it'll be good practice and eventually you'll be able to paint realistically either without reference or with minimal reference, which is the hard part. i'm confident you can do it :chug:

Wow, that turned out really well. You did a particularly good job on the hair and the gloves. If you do decide to tackle realism I think you've already got a pretty good foundation. You should definitely give it a try.

One thing about this picture that stands out is: amazingly rendered metal! o.0 Its very well done.

The blades look blank, right now they look more plastic than metal.

Thanks man I appreciate it..truth be known...I just finished my first pro gig as a concept designer for epic's Unreal 2k4(freelance gig), and that robot guy was an unused ( XAN)design...I did a bunch of robot character concepts only to be told that the robot was given to another studio..haha..oh well....but I had the priveledge of designing 12 of the new characters and alternate looks for each of them...

Epic has released a few screens from the game...so you can see some in game shots of the Skaarj and some mercs, both of which were my designs..

The COOLEST thing is that I was flipping through issue#124 of Game informer magazine yesterday and saw my characters in there for the UT2K4 spot...I was VERY excited...!!!!

This is quality stuff right here. I like it all.

It could just be my neophyte knowledge of proportions, but her shoulders look a little broad / bulky for a woman. But, then again, you probably did that on purpose, considering how awesome this piece is.

Just... wow. Great work. I also agree that the metal is amazingly rendered, as is the cloth.
