i painted this last week. its a 60x80 inch oil on canvas. i spent 5 days on this one, which is a bit longer than usual, but it is a slightly larger format than what i usually do. i love doing these, since its kinda mindless, and the focus is not necessarily on rendering, but more of a giant color study. hope you like...

No crit. Excellent work.
My favorite part of this piece is the three vehicles in the front. I think you nailed those.
By the way is this from a photo or was this done on location? just wondering....

ooooo man! the greens in the windshields and the blues in the windows on the buildings are genius. this is really an amazing piece. there are so many different vibrant colors, yet they all harmonize very well. that first truck is so awesome looking, i need to start painting some cars or something...i have never done that yet. your past few landscapes such as this have really been a departure in style from your older ones, i like them a lot. they seem more clean and defined. nice to see you breaking out of the norm.

This looks sick man. I love your everyday city paintings. Now that you mention that its more of a color study than a painting, It does seem like that. The bg especially, it looks like u took a more graphic approach than usual.

Great inspiration Mr. Coro :)

really great painting there. amazing.

I find the reflections in the wind-shields distracting though. IMO they detract from the painting rather than add to it. kuddos for trying to do them though, couldn't have been easy doing.

W O N D E R F U L !

What can I say, except that I just love you cityscapes.
These paintings capture life so perfect, you tell stories without even showing people acting around.
I can nearly smell the summer in this one, the way the late afternoon sun is heating up the street and buildings, the smoggy sky in the backgroung, the dirty alley baked in sunlight. You impress me always.

You are the king of oils.

You are my only inspiration to paint oils. I think in about two more years, once you get enough pieces together, you will have so much ficking respect in the art world that it wont even be funny. I bet you'll get huge.

The is by far my favorite painting ive seen you do. Colors are brilliant.

My new plans is to borrow my friend's guns and move down to SF and kidnap you and your liberation will come after you have shown me how to paint bad ass oils. Im only telling you my master plan so that you can prepare your lessons that you will teach me. Expect to see me around October. :)

Incredible, amazing. :)
I tried with back away from my monitor a couple of metres and when I did it looked like I was outside, supernice rendering.
Can I ask you one thing, how do you start out with your paintings? do you make a drawing underneath?

Keep it up :)
see you

Coro; this is another beautiful piece, very lovely play on colors, and the values are just great. 5 days... how long per day?

I'm speechless (well not really, because I'm writing this). This is breathtaking. Your work is an absolute pleasure to view. Which leads me to ask, DO you sell these? Would you?

"mindless...color study" he says, sheesh. Well, now I have something to replace your overpass image on my desktop.

My favorite areas are the color transitions in the soft shadow edges and the colors you chose for atmospheric perpsective.

Since you said you've been working for 5 days on this, can I assume you took photographs? Are you working with a grid to transfer to the larger size or are you projecting a slide onto your canvas?

You absolutely have to make more of these.

Really really good

I love this stuff. I want to do that too someday! ;-)

Did you paint this from life or from pictures? How do you approach this?

Please continue!

since everyone else has given you plenty of comments on the great value and colours, i'll give a little crit, probably nothing you already didnt know. the only thing that seems somewhat unresolved is the composition. The grouping of value to the left of the foreground telephone pole is great, but to the right of the telephone, the space becomes a little ambigous and starts creating little abstract shapes. i guess its too late for a different cropping or shifting of elements, so i guess this crit was pretty much useless...
oh well.

El Coro.

The palette is beautiful, your simplification of complicated reality is educating, and the patterns you made create a rhythm that's music to my eyes. Know what I mean?

i visited your webpage yesterday and it was overwhelming.
i want to paint like that. :D

i love these city scenes you do, they are quite amazing. i like the butcher shop painting you posted when i first started posting here, and i really like your sci-fi stuff.
the junky cyborg woman and man hugging is the tits.

i was going to e-mail you to tell you that i love your artwork and it was apreciated, but never did.

so, you are a great artist. i am amazed you still have further to grow.

thank you to everyone who replied. i've been so busy, i havent had the time to reply, so here it goes...
killing.people: thanks. we all have much room to grow, and i'm far away from where i want to be.

Chromo48: glad you caught the reflection. its one of those little things that add to the overall believability of the pic, i think.

togusa: thanks for your input. i appreciate it and see what you're saying, but i like the right side, and feel the pic would be unbalanced and left too open if i had omitted it or recropped. i wanted that alley feel....

Erik: i used a photo i took a while back. it would be too much trouble to lug this thing out into that alley everyday. hahah..

bwkeough: i used a projector to save time and gray hairs. the drawing would have probably taken me days without it. as it was, it took me about 2 hours to shoot it up, and i abbreviate a lot on the drawing, blocking in only big rough shapes and omitting details...

strych9ine: i sell them occaisionally. these sell more than the wierder paintings i do. people always like landscapes...

Frost: i probably spent 2 twelve hour days, as well as three 5-6 hour days. goddamn day job sucking up all my time...thanks again, i'm glad you like it...

Matthew-S : i'll do a really simplified line drawing in charcoal pencil. no value, just shapes. i used a projector to save time and to assure the focus of this piece to be painting, not drawing. thats what the book's for...

nardfrog: thanks. i'll be expecting you.-c36

foster: i had a one man exhibition of these last night. although i didnt sell anything, the work was warmly recieved. i have found i sell paintings like these more often than the ones of naked women being probed by robotic thingies. i guess its less of a commitment to have a city scape hanging above the fireplace, as opposed to the naked probed women...thanks, i'm glad you like this one..

Marko Djurdjevic: i love the fact that you see the beauty in these. i can only hope to impress you half as much as you impress me...

PriNcE oF SpAcE: i feel the colors on the windsheilds lend balance into the overall colors within the painting. without it there wouldnt be any yang to the yin of the red brick buildings....if that makes any sense...i'm kinda crazy. i just paint what i see in the pic...

JOSHUATHEJAMES : two hours. i projected it. its the illustrator in me.

daarken: thanks. you should try painting cars, its really fun. also, im glad you can see a progression, it makes me want to keeppainting these...

Alger Langdon: photo...

andto everyone else who replied, thank you all sooo much for your support and kind words of encouragement. i appreciate it more that y'all could ever know...-c36
