Thought I'd start up a a digital sketchbook thread to keep me motivated on doing quickies etc in photshop.

a wolverine pic to start it up, quite inspired by the kent williams version in the meltdown series. A result of trying for more of an eperimental arty style in Photoshop.

really slick stuff, how do you get your textures, do you slap in a texture plate before you start, or overlay it later?

Marco - Cheers mate!

Jnorish - Thanks! Yea, that second one is jessica alba.

apb - Thanks man, meltdown series rocked!

Daarken - Haha, red noses a williams influence for sure. Thanks man glad you liked them, really enjoying the stuff you been posting lately aswell!

Endregan - Thanks!

Foster - Feelings definetely mutual man, your works are always a great source of fresh inspiration. Thanks dude!

Tedsuo / Atmospheria / behemot5 - Thanks Guys!

metaphysiks - Thanks, haven't come across the netsuke but I'll run a search and check it out!

Rusty - Thanks! Was pretty much trying to get the basic structure in the block in for the first pic, and get it as finished looking as possible with least ammount of rendering in there, quite a fun excersise. Yep, second pic is j alba!.

Landmate - Textures were pretty much built up from a combination of custom textured brushes, a texture layer and the sharpen tool. Found using a texture layer pretty cool for working in ps, as building up texture can be abit of a bitch and it's real easy to lose the original loose brushwork in the build up. Not my usual method, usually stick to custom brushes so it was nice to change things up and experiment with a different way of working, gave it a real nice grain. I brought it in pretty much midway then kept going with the paintbrush.

That's one of the best Wolverine Portraits I've seen in a long time.........I know you did it in PS but I can't help but love the water colouresque brush stroke.
cheers

Quite a nice mark. Especially the top one. I'd like to see some of your work in traditional media. Also...drop on by the speed painting thread with some of this stuff!

Well you've succeeded in doing something I think we all try to do, which is bring life to digital painting/sketching. These are really tasty and full of life. I am sleep-deprived so I'm repeating myself, but I love these, basically.:p
