Thanks! I just started figure, it is boring at times, especially when you have the same model every time.....

Hey future Ringling candidate ;) awesome stuff here, your still lifes are definitely the strongest. Love the figure up top too. Keep pushing those figure studies, they'll be very important in your Ringling portfolio, but what you have here looks great. It looks like you're studying the right areas. Nice balance in that one beside the pig. I would encourage studying shapes more; looking for the simple shapes in a figure. A lot of your work seems heavy on contour and not so many construction lines. Construction lines will give your drawings an appearance of weight and also help you understand the figure as a three-dimensional form. How are you studying? Are you working from live models?

Thanks so much! Yeah, I have trouble straying away from contour, it makes it difficult for me to see shapes, heh, but I'm trying :) And yes, I'm taking a figure drawing class at the community college right now, I'm not expecting any studio credits to transfer to Ringling but I thought it would be helpful to take the class anyway.

hey man, really dig your work! Love the dood at the top. Maybe it's been said, but is it a selfportrait?
Regarding your lifedrawings I like them a lot, however, you should perhaps consider using fewer lines and work on your line wieght. Try shopping off lines were the light is strong and the same were shadows are intence. Lighting has a big impact on the figure.
haha, hope this came out understandble. Take it or leave it. ^^
cool stuff, waiting for the updates!

Hey copperfire! Looking good.
I like Tigermilk's suggestion. Vary your line weight a bit - less in areas of light, darker in areas of shade. It helps to add a more three-dimensional quality.
From your last post, I think this (http://conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=251475&stc=1&d=1196575898), this (http://conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=251473&stc=1&d=1196575881), and this (http://conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=251474&stc=1&d=1196575885) will make strong portfolio pieces. I'm not a fan of the background on the last one, but the figure is well done, so consider that as well. Your ink drawings do not read as well, but variety in medium is good. If you have time, do a few more figures in ink wash and see how you like them. this (http://conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=251470&stc=1&d=1196575864) is your best, IMO. Your figures look really great. It's your preference, but I would suggest lightening up on the black a little. I feel that overdoing the background is competing with the figure, and using one solid color really emphasizes the flatness of what could otherwise be a drawing full of depth.
Hope to see more soon!

UriL- thanks! lol I dunno about surely, but I hope! And no I have not sent in my application yet, I should do that huh? :)
Tigermilk- Thanks for the advice!! I'll try that! My marks are so boring... Anyway, the first picture is of my boyfriend, I'll try and add some self portraits when I get one done lol.
nilaffle- Thanks for all the help! The pieces you chose are good ones, lol I would have thought they were too unfinished though, some of them anyway, man I'm picky, any others you think are good enough? Like some of my older works?

I never happened to look at your sketchbook until now. You've got some very nice work with a lot of promise! Keep up the good work. I wish I would have used my access to a model more wisely when I took figure drawing at my community college. (At the time I still wasn't sure what school I was going to so I wasn't thinking ahead about making a portfolio.)
I took a watercolor class this semester, but we were free to do other mediums if we wanted. Unfortunately, we only had a model for a few classes at the end of the semester. I was planning to make a lot of progress, but things just didn't work out. Having to work from books and fake fruit was rather disappointing.
Anyway, I don't mean that to sound like a sob story or get wordy, I just wanted to say that I hope you appreciate the chances you have to draw from a live model. Take advantage of every minute you get and continue working hard. Definitely post your final portfolio choices too. :)

you have some really nice stuff here! ringling will definitely be happy with your traditional stuff! and those charcoals/inks (http://conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=273694&stc=1&d=1199571624) are very attractive. If I was a graphite pencil... I'd totally ask them out!
here's to us getting in!

Ringling eh? Good choice! I was looking to go there (not for another 4 years) But my chances of getting there are pretty slim as of now, because I'll have to get a full scholarship to go at all, which I can't even hope for =P
Anyway, you have some nice stuff here, I'll be sure to come back.

I love your ink wash stuff; the brush strokes have a touch of randomness to them that gives those gestures a lot of energies. I'd like to see more work from you in that style; an ink wash environment piece would be very interesting!
