okay... this is my lil scuba-diver thingy... its my first aempt at creating a vehicle so donīt expect too much!
Any crits would be appreciated!

apart from the fact that it really looks more like some household kitchenitem (automatic apple peeler or something) no crits aprt from the thing already mentioned. Maybe add some detail or refine the form abit so you can actually define it as something. But the drawing itself is rather quorkey :D

Automatic apple peeler... hehe i like that... maybe I should change that whole thing and really do a design for an automatic apple peeler... :D
anyways... i think i am going to color that pretty soon

It looks sleek, but not very aerodynamic. Personally, I think it belongs underwater more than it belongs in the air.

yeah u are probably right... thats because i did not think about it while i was drawing.
I just wanted to draw something and that is what came out.
okay... now it is official it is an underwater-vehicle ;)

Color it!!! I like the design! =D

it's good to thinks in classic terms of cockpit, engine, and other stuff when starting out with vehicles. later it's easy to morph parts into each other and stuff. and you should have a clear idea of what environment it's for- that helps a lot in initial planning (air vehicles have wings, an aerodynamic shape; underwater have suction holes and propellers; land vehicles have wheels or tracks, etc.). you can basically design a vehicle by going through a list of what's it have to got. reversed engineering i guess :)

i agree with lung completely. I looked at this and yes it is a design, but there isn't much to it at all. I first thought it was a shoe.

I dissagree.. sometimes less is more
It's nice to see a subtractive form for once... usully everone goes all out with guns, jets, and other addetive design elements.. If people are having a hard time figuring out what it is.. then when you color it add a little background.. bubbles and whatnot
and it's obviously very hydrodynamic. It looks very Scott Robertson inspired.. and many opportunities for intakes
It looks futuristic enough to hint at possible uncomprehendable technologies .. that you may be able to go into..

and then again, sammy, if you don't have a solid base to build upon, it all turns into a guessing game

2 min of brainstorming...
http://www.securevirtualpages.com/~sammyha/onlineforums/2-11.jpg
seems solid enough to me... the form reflects a botlenose dolphin's mellon ... their skull is shaped as such to increase sonar effeciency...
Scott Robertson draws random abstract lines sometimes and then figures out a design... sometimes the imagination should be the "solid base"
I like the compact design, I would like for this not to turn into a generic overly complex form

i'm no authority on designing vehicles whatsoever, just wanted to share what i know. there are numerous ways of designing and none of them is 'wrong'... but some are easier.
anyhow, what this pic needs most is environment and scale indication. that's a must, regardless of other stuff.

i think sammys right on the money - i personally think form and function ......the extra cannisters and and wires and and all that stuff can be defined later - i like this piece - because of its simplisity and to me its a craft - could be a space pod could be an underwater thing also...
I do agree with lung also about the engine prop idea - but it can also be agued we cant see it cause it could be in the back ....\
all in all its a great first ship-
Good work!!!!!!! EL!

you're right Lung_bug ... any and all vehicle's need reference to size.. sometimes a just cockpit doesn't do it.. .. you just need to add a simple sillouhette of a person...
and also it's true that some forms of designing are easyer.. but when that's the case use it to your advantage to do multiple designs that develope an idea..
When I look at this vehicle I see it as some sort of scout/probe/research vessil.. not something that's goin' out for intergalactic war...
the placement of the cockpit yeilds to a wide viewing range for crystal clear water searches.. or a large HUDS display that can translate sonar information to a 3d grid projected onto the inside of the cockpit

sammy: you see a scout vessel, but many people don't. davi here saw a shoe, other peeps seen it in other ways. the layout of parts you did can be interpreted completely differently. sometimes just gotta make it more obvious. many game developers ask for that
shyst: i didn't say that this particular vehicle must have a propeller, just said it's a common thing on water vehicles.

was bored. coloured it in quickly. scale references are a bit wacky and the form is too. probably be good if you did more form studies... the proportions are slightly funny too...

Man you peeps are hilarious- I IMAGINE A PERSON STANDING WILE HE PILOTS THIS DANG THING.. thats how i would gadge the scale...also the middle seam could flip up and the person can get in and out ......
also looks like a side view with alil too much nose showing...
in the drawing aspect_
other than that i imagine theres another gyro on the otherside of this
UNDERWATER-CRAFT
i May try to model this thing in lightwave -

WoW... i did not expect that much of attention to this lil sketch at all.
But its good after all i guess.
Lung is right when he complains about certain things in this "design" and Sammy is right also!
I did not really think of anything while i drew this. It is Scott Robertson inspired in terms of form and design. I just had an interesting form, and wanted to convert it into something vehicle-like.
Maybe it is a guessing-game like Lung said... but then again i stated that it is supposed to be an underwater vehicle.
Since it is not finished (it is in the sketches section after all) there is enough room left for your own imagination. If i had the desire to finish it, i would have taken more time then 10 minutes to work on it. AND it is my first vehicle design!
Anyways... i do thank you for all of your comments, because I learned a lot of things.
Oh! one more thing!
I donīt think it is nice to turn someone down, just because you donīt like the design. And yes! it is a design after all... But it is obviously more than a shoe. If there was "nothing to it at all" it would not have come to this discussion, me thinks!
Thanks a lot guys I learned a lot of some peoples constructive criticism and of some peoples imagination.
