So now that I've started to work on my portfolio to try to get into Ringling, I decided it would be best to start a sketchbook also.
Don't hold out with the critiques, I can take it.

Hey Jodo! This is very well-rendered, nice cast shadows. Let's see more. :)

Hey Jodo! Looking great so far. You seem to have a good grasp of the form. Try to make your darkest values black and lightest values white; contrast will really make that image pop. What you have is good...just push it a bit more! Also, (this is nitpicky), your rendering looks a bit sketchy. Take your time. Really try to make the surface look smooth like that boot.
Keep it up! Do some figure work! :)

i agree with thesinfulsaint... good start. keep in mind the local value of the boot. start with the value of the boot itself and then work up the highlights and down the shadows.

Thanks for the advice guys.
I'm thinking I should use a smoother surface like bristol so it looks less grainy.

throtailer, Magami, copperfire: thanks for the comments guys, really appreciate it.
Here's another one I did a few days ago.
P.S: Holding you hand up for a pose for more than an hour at a time hurts. :(

I like your drawings. You have good shading sense.
Just for the picture with the wine glass - it looks great, just the wine glass itself seems a bit uneven. But, I mean as a general picture; that's barely a problem.
Good stuff! Keep at it!

You're right, I didn't notice that till I scanned it. Too lazy to scan it again though.
Thanks for the comment.

hmmm, i have a hard time making words of my thoughts... I find these two, and especially the shoe, to be to clean. i really cant explain what i'm thinking properly. i think it might be something in the neighborhood of the lines being to strait and clean, and the objects being a little striff. i think if the flap(?) on the shoe looked not so stiff, that would help. i think more creases would also help, maybe some texture... it kind of pisses me of how i cant put my finger on it. anywho! keep this updated, i want to see more.:)
and i love your avatar! very very cool. are you in the scouts?

I agree, it does lack texture and could benefit from more detail, I'll get on that.
Not in the scouts, I just like the fleur-de-lis.
Thanks for the crits.

Not much. I've been slacking lately.
I'm gonna start getting serious about my portfolio though, so this sketchbook is going to become more active soon.
In the mean time here's a study I did of Jacques-Louis David's "Patroclus".
P.S: My scanner sucks...
