these speedpaints really look like theyre helping you massively! you've probably already answered this question somewhere, but i cant find it - how long are each of these taking you - specifically the landscapeys?

they're making me want to crack out some custom brushes and get going on some speedies also!

look forward to seeing more progression

ps - second thanks to Cold - i hadnt seen those links before, but they look like an awesome resource...bookmarked!

Love that latest character design! keep em coming!

I have one question though.. when you colour grayscale pictures.. do you apply overlay and multiply layers with colour? I've been experimenting a bit with that, and some advice would be nice.

Hej buckster! Tack sa mycket för skriver i mit sketchbook. (and sorry for my sucky senska - I am making an effort to learn atm..)

MonkeYoakum: Thanks a bundle man, and aye, dark it is ^^

Camara: Cheers mate and thank you very much!

DefiledVisions: Thanks man. I usually start off with a multiply layer, then overlay to get some saturation in there, after that a pass with opage brushes to get details down then do it all over again until I feel like it is "done".

lewiston: Tack så mycket, jag är glad att du gillar mina grejor! And your swedish is at the very least understandable so you are doung good there as well man. Cheers and thanks you!

Helloes helloes my dear.. I'm liking the colours you are using in those windery landscapes, very pretty. She big guy in post #259 is neat. I love the volume you got going there, aswell as the colours.

The bandaged man is a cool concept, but I think you can do better with him, also you know what I think of those sparkly blue lights coming from his eyes..

Hey again Buckster. Well, i'll start off with saying that you really have improved, and i mean by alot. I'm not at all as deep in all of this art stuff as everyone else here is but to a designer this is just jawdropping, you spawn so many design ideas into my head...

I was gonna say that it would be an honour to sometime in the future work in a project with you, but i almost gotta say it would be wrong to confine you in a project. Then again with your skill something very special could be done. Trust me, when i'm in need of an artist you'll without exception be my first choice.

I've been slacking off myself lately but this was more than enough to get me motivated and working again. It's an honour to know you, man :)

Also, i'd like to congratulate you and Enmi on your decision to get married. (I hope i'm not wrong on this one) I hope i get invited :)

What more can i say, i'm not the right person to critic your work in technical terms but i can say this: I don't know what IT is, but you've got it...

Thanks for the comment amigo. These things are quite awesome indeed, and the speedies are very impressive. What I think is the problem is that you are already quite accomplished in that field so I think you should try and do some more anatomy studies or something that you are not already sure of, thus challenging the sides that are your weakest.

Hey mate! Gotta say that your progress and development is truly inspiring, it shows what dedication and hard work brings. I really need to start following your example.

I like the render work in those recent pencil sketches, simple and effective. I'm fond of your latest speedpaint, a relatively undramatic light setting (so you can't "cheat" by using cool back-lighting etc) very nicely pulled off, and the textures bring the materials to life.

The ony criticism I can think of is that some elements of some speedpaints could benefit form a little more tightening up to make them more real and less semi-abstract colours and shapes.

Keep it up!

nice sketches and character concepts - indeed.
scrolled trough mostly all of them. i found that i disliked the last drawing - the girl portrait. face and eyes is interesting, but i feel there is something wrong with the lighting. i.e there should be more light hitting her nose and chin bones - or if she has a very strange face structure it should be lighted differently?

here's a few updates, I will post the art I've done for the projects once they are completed as well but for now this will do.

hey man! looks like you've been busy!

excellent work on the digis as usual...the troll looks heavily hurricane inspired for some reason and his nose reminds me of an erect penis...but i love the suggested background, very synthetic but definately works channelling the word "wood" and the right mood to the piece.Only the conviniently placed bush in front of the hard bits don't convince me, but might be cause it deserved more attention maybe?
Nice take on red sonia as well, love the new armor and dreadlocks ;)...very cool work on the storyboard and in the latest update...the boobies on the pregnant woman look very, very carefully rendered, they're really well done (so well done they become the main focus piece of the piece, dunno if tis was what you wanted hehe). My favourite tho of this whole page is the guy in front of the cauldron...love the composition, love the original character designs, the costume...really really good :)

Hey man, thanks for checkin' out my SB.

You've got a lot of work here! Great effort doing the regular speed paintings.

It's really good that you are able to do lots of imaginative pictures, but there seems to be a lack of studies and observational drawings.

My main critique would be that I think some of your drawings are lacking volume, particularly in the environments. You've already got the base for some great enviros, but some of them lack that solid, physical presence.

And one last thing I always like to remind people of is to try different things in art, and not just "Oh, I'll use a different Photoshop brush today", really do something different. Use a different medium, draw something that you've never drawn. Don't ever get stuck in a style.

Hope this is of some help.

Btw, I really like 'The Girl with the Glass Ball', and the storyboard is cool.

Peace out.

DefiledVisions: haha, thanks a bundle mate, my beard is my pride :p

Mentler: I am thankful for your kindness Mr.Bone.

Mischeviouslittleelf: Thank you very much mate, I greatly appreciate you coming here.

algenpfleger: hehe, thanks for the push man!

EKOes: Thanks you very much.

Chuck, mate: Thank you for stopping by Patri, much appreciated comment ^^

Gloominati: Thank you very much.

kidult: Thanks!

Chupacabra: Thanks Khan, I really tried and it is much to CA credit ^^

here are some new stuff I've not posted for a while, very busy with animation at the moment so most of these are rather rushed. I really failed with the last CHOW, the dentist part must have slipped my mind ^^.. anyhow. I am still trying to get to the colour part without the greyscale in between for speed. It tends to give my pieces higher saturation, have to work on that.

...enjoy

Man, great sb! That reaper is insane! are these all photoshop or do you work with painter also?

DefiledVisions
November 9th, 2008, 04:28 PM
Wow man, you keep amazing with great updates! Was about to comment on the saturation when I noticed you'd allready mentioned it - agree on the skintones, they are strong.
I really enjoy your colours though, I don't think the high saturation lowers the piece in any way.

cheers.

I like your Spike even if he looks like a wizard more than a dentist! Very nice style!

love the character designs and your use of colour. but your CHOW illustrations seem a little to static, try some more dynamic poses.

Good, good!

I think you could be more wary of how the environment affects the colours of your characters. You´re doing it occasionally, and quite subtly, but I think your images might benefit from you taking it further. This ties in with that I think your colours sometimes are too homogenous, and more nuances would really make your colour pop!

Your values are getting better and better.

I highly enjoy the dragon dentists face. Very stern, good expression. I think you should try and echo that expression and feeling with the rest of the pose, especially with the gesture of the hands (how would a stern person pose her hands, stereotypically?). That would make the expression feel more coherent and less "artificial".

Fun silhouettes!

I think you could work some on your kneeanatomy!

The guy next to the blue cauldron-image on page 10 is stellar!

You have limitless potential! You will make it as a concept artist, if you want to. Keep drawing and have fun. 5 Stars from me. You´ve earned em. Respect. ( have an icecream ;P )

*Hugs! ;P

page 12 of your sb stands miles above pg 11. i think you may have had a breakthrough in how you use color to model out the characters.

keep working in this direction and i think you will be in really good shape

Aware but free and sponataneous designs. Your art can speak for itself. It speaks and says: "I'm a bad-ass!" ;)

tias: Thanks a bundle mate. I almost always use Photoshop simply because I am more comfortable with. I would love to learn Painter but I find it very hard to control.

DefiledVisions: Hey man, sorry for not updating for so long. Your comments always cheers me up and I greatly cherish your support. Keep kicking it yourself.

Clochette: haha thank you very much for trying ^^

kidult: thank you kindly mate.

rebel rebel: I agree with you, I focus too much on the rendering as well most of the times, I will try to get some fancy poses in there.

kaktuzlime: I eat a lot of icecream now a days ^^thank you very much for the comments and crit, I always appreciate your take on my art.

morbidious: hey hey! nice to see you here, I am very happy about it. And now when you finally got here I left o_O how silly of me. Will get better at updating but I am really swapped T_T

I'A CTHULHU: thank you very much. Now you can have a look at some new and older stuffs right here ^^

roidvoid: thank you very much, I feel a lot more comfortable for some reason ^^not that things are easy but it comes more natural.

Nubb: thanks a lot mate!

Reject-D: hey man, thank you for taking the time to do that, I agree with you. You have improved a lot yourself, keep kicking it in your SB.

Hey everybody, I am very sorry for being absent for such a long time. I have landed a freelance job as an illustrator whilst studying so unfortunately I don't have a lot of time for personal art. I promise to show some work related stuff sometime but for now it'll be some sketches and paintings I did since the last post. Some of them are from last year and some more recent ^^

Soooooo.
It has been too damn long since I updated this here SB, I guess I've felt that I've not had that much to show really but here goes anyway.

I am working on a few projects that has a got little attention so my time has been spent on working on those and I guess I've just been too tiered when I've come home to sit down in front of the computer and start on a new piece. I've been trying to relax and stuff with games but I am just really frustrated when not painting, haha... yeah.

Here are a few pieces I've doodled on my spare time, enjoy.
