I know this question has been brought up before but I must ask it again. How does one go about finding a style. Can it be achieved by the media you use like the way C36 for example? He uses tria’s brushes guach, color pencils pen and what ever I forgot. I know that he is not the first but he has mastered the technique. Do you mimic one or two of your favorites and combine to form your own style. I know that it may be hard to explain but I would love some input on this.

Thanks Peps

Don't worry about it. It will happen with time. The more you conciously think about Capital-S-Style the more your work will suffer. Make the kind of pictures that make you happy. Take what you find useful from artists you admire, but also go back and look at their influences.

Style and technique are related, but not identical. Michelangelo is Michelangelo, whether he's carving marble or painting on ceilings.

One of the teachers at SVA (I think it was Sal Amendola) used to say "style is the mistakes you make that nobody else does."

don't search for a special style and try not to copy one's style.

that's the best way to get style :)

yeah, things will fall in place alone.

sometimes, you see a way of shape treatment you hadn't tried out or thought of and give it a shot. some day you just are too hyped by an amano artbook that you start making looser sketches of phantasy stuff and throw around with colors you wouldn't have dared otherwise etcetera...
every experience leaves a little mark, even if it reads "i don't like it". all those marks, alongside things or shapes you find interesting enough to stress more and the way you leave your marks will make up your style.
it's a bit like vine, it'll need some time.

Elwell,Cucaracha,Gekitsu.
Thanks for all your input. I had it in my that had to mimic someones style to get my own and in the process did get caught up and forgot what I really liked to do. Everthing you guys said i have taken and will work on implementing.

Once again I thank you and look forward for more input from this community
