the year is 490164. the princess has been languishing in exile on a distant island, but has now mustered her supporters and is returning to wreak vengeful havoc on those who stole her throne and subjugated her people.

being a Winter princess... its plausible that she can withstand the cold in just her knickers ;)
I think it all depends on the character you develop. i agree about the proportions however. ACRO, check this (http://www.posemaniacs.com/blog/pose/) site out.. if you don't already know about it... helps me out all the time.

be sure you know that and dont use it as a bible
a map of the muscle system over a 3d model
will not move like real muscles and its only as good as the model itself

Final for now. I really want to work on it some more, particularly details like the gun, her face, clothes, the light... in fact it all really..! But for now it'll have to do. I'll update it if I get a moment...

fuuryoku - Nice start, I think you've already pointed out the obvious problem with the arms

prepsage - Love that idea and really enjoy the composition, although more upclose on the acutal character would be better, from a personal choice.

Poshspice - Great sketches! I think I prefer the first and last ones, although the third looks fun!

Newman - looks great, its similar to what I've sketched today... looks like I'm heading off to redo it! :D

Ostrander - Nice, I like the 'sorcerer' - like appearance of her. That was another possiblity I was thinking of!

A few thoughts on current WIP's.

Splittingadams - Nice start with something different. Looking quite demonic for an ice princess at the moment...

Acro - Don't get too hung up on the background and design first. Get your character right and the rest can follow by building a story around it. Which one are you going with?

Trevor - Smashing! Great energy and I'm looking forward to what's going on behind her as well. I've started working tonally first at the moment. Good way of getting values right from the start.

Fuuryoku - Fab start. Yup the arms need looking at, but also watch the height of her hips and waist. She's three heads to the crotch right now, or maybe make her head slightly smaller...

Prepsage - Very dynamic and imposing! Hope you do get more time on it as I'd love to see more of this...

Newman - Great pose and the hidden expression add to the menace of this piece.

Spudstudios - Lovely sketch and linework. Can't help thinking it would benefit from expanding the composition a bit though. Your avatar is groovy!

pjentaszeq - Looking forward to seeing where you go with this. Watch her balance and her right hip (our left). At the moment it looks dislocated, but you can correct this by bringing it in a bit.

Ifman1 - More of a spoilt brat than a princess! :) Heh!

The Whistler - Just a suggestion, but how about a portrait composition rather than landscape? Unless you intend to fill the white at the side, you might as well give it more at the top and bottom rather than the sides. Fab sketch!

Ostrander - I like the strength of the design, and the witchy qualities of this. She's going to be a tad chilly though in her underwear! ;)

Nuru - The renaissance dress give this a fairy tale feel. It'd be great to see more of the detail as it looks like you've put a fair bit in, particularly in the hair.

As for mine, thanks for the comments. I'm probably going to go with the last one. Although it's not the most dynamic, I feel there's more of a story in this one that I can develop a bit.

Hi! There´s my colour sckeetch about this avengening winter princess.

She was going to be queen, but some conspirators from the reign abandoned her in the cold mountains when she was a baby condemning her to die. Surrounded by wild animals, she managed to survive... know that she is the stronger beast in all the mountains she returns to claim for her reign...

Weeell, this is intimidating. Some really great concepts so far, poshspice, newman, and villa in particular. Villa, that pose is a killa! ahahaha...okay.

So here's what i'm thinking so far, minus some of the obvious flaws (the mammoth totally sucks, it will be better >_< also her pose will definitely change...) Also, I think there'll be more of her army close behind her, and... I'm trying to decide whether i want clear weather or stormy. My dramatic side is saying storm. This is the first time I've done any competition like this, so be harsh and brutal guys! =D

Hey guys, a quick wip a bit muddy, but just trying a new thing for me, base sketch in PS, print then pencil, I always forget how much more confident you are with a real pencil looking directly at what your doing! so that was fun but a bit weird! Also I need to draw more women, many more, if Im not paying attention I slip into trying to make my antomy over the top tuff-guy powerfull, not a good look on women!

Rick-k: this could be a really striking image if you just push and pull some colors and contrast. Perhaps the sky could be warm to make her cold body stand out? Also I'd pick a place on her body/outfit whatever you want to be the focal point and dodge highlight that area. Good luck!

Villa - hey man. quick question if i may. how do you color your pieces if you do the values first???

its the first time i do it "kinda" properly actually... so what i did was:

i have my 'values' layer down and then i set up a layer on top of that one, set to 'multiply' in photoshop.

since i had all the shapes in my values layer and my background would be in another one, i set up that new multiply layer i just made, with a clipping mask, on top of the values layer and start coloring away, so i dont get out of the shapes.

i think there are more refined ways to do that but ill work on it later.
