Whoa, really good craftsmanship and painting style. I like it's soft feel to it, and the one of the elephants is particularly outstanding.

damn, this thread was made for me! I love rome, rome the series and vikings!!! :D
Awesome work, but some proportions and perspectives look a bit off (especially ceasar)
Cloister

Very nice action and movement. Very bold piece with the elephants - very nice result! The lion-piece looks great, but the hind legs of the cat looks too human, I think. There are som minor anatomical and perspective flaws here, but you do not fear the tough postures, and overall these looks great! The wolf-attack and the elephant-piece are my favorites. Constantinople doesn't messure up with the rest. Good work!

amazing work, I loed every piece and was so glad to see you'd posted when and where they took place... awesome historical stuff.. ass pats galore for you my friend.

Impressive work man, especcially the rendering and composition and color. Chosen very clearly and they tell a story. Chapeau
I agree with Rhineville and Cloister to say that the anatomy is a bit off here and there. My eye fell also on open mouths, they look strange and crooked. With the scream avec lighting in the background as an exeption. In my fav, the one with the horse and the wolf, the mouth of the wolf, one of the focuspoints of the piece, could use extra attention. It doesn't seem to have a throat.
Overall good pieces. Me likes :D

In fact, berserks attacked NAKED. I'm not joking - no protection at all, even from mosquitos ;)

naked and on magic mushrooms - (note to self: run in opposite direction as fast as possible)
Nice Renderings!
There are so much good stuff, lion - sea battle - elephants. Some nice energy in some of these.
The fact that this stuff actually happened is amazing.
I would like to see more grit and blood - but wonder if the specs for the job impacted on this. I always want to see more grit and blood though...

i enjoyed those. Very nice motion and interesting light settings.

In fact, berserks attacked NAKED. I'm not joking - no protection at all, even from mosquitos
Actually they did wear armour. It was just light armour. Attacking naked would be senseless. They were berserkers, not stupid.
and on magic mushrooms
Negative. No mushroom (that they had access to anyway) can cause the reported "berserker-rage". If anything, eating the mushrooms would dull them down, and make them sleepy.
But hey, this is about the art! Which I love. Love the movement, love the composition. Aside from the anatomical weirdness in some of these, great work!

>>Jag,faradoon,dkounios,sketchling,Tom garden, Kek thanks !
>>Mr-Joe, yeah I plan a lot my compositions, I think it's the most important thing in an image , because that's the very first thing you see; and if it's messed up the whole image can't work . I do a lot of thumbnails on the computer before starting, until i find something appealing and telling a story;
>> hey charles, thanks; your name sounds like coming from the "bacalhau" country :) ?
here are some other stuff I would like to post here ; it's more Sci-fi oriented :

Faces feel slightly off in general and I discovered some anatomy glitches (nothing major, though). Enviros could use more depth of field, meaning - more detail in the focus, less detail around it. And the use of color pespective could push all of it even further.
Now that I'm done with crits, I just want to say that it's all very, very nice.
Cheers,

Did that last piece have an intentional reference to captain america? or was that purely coincidental?

October 7th, 2007, 01:31 PM
Hello, nice pieces you got here, I like them all and I agree with everyones comments. The only thing that I don't like is the focal points aren't as strong. I did a draw over on some how to really make those focal points stand out more. I would just make the directions of eye flow really powerful, like the lion and the gladiator, I would make the chain being pulled real strong and tight as if it were pointing at the lion, showing the lion is powerful since it seems to be above the gladiator or something like that. other than that, keep it up and make those focal points stronger. Thanks for sharing and hope to see more of your stuff :)

Gtreat stuff all around. I particularly like the vikings and the first fairy picture.
Only one critique. On the novel picture, I think her arms are either too long or her torso (or her whole body?) is too short. I just put my arms behind my back and they seem to cross a little higher on my butt. Maybe you were struggling with getting the knife and hands close in the foreground and still trying to get her whole body into the picture?

Loving all the norse stuff, but when the eddas say 'void' I'm pretty sure it means water and not really actually 'space.' There are specific references to the river that seperates asgard from jotunheim and the earth sinking beneath the waves, midgard serpent in the sea etc etc... but that's only if you're going for lore-acuracy. Whether or not, the tree pic is still great :D
The fire-giant's name was Surt BTW.

That Rome landscape painting is exquisite, although it could perhaps do with being a little less sharp and weathered to get ovet the feel that this was a 3D base mesh.
Im not in a position to criticise character work, all i will say on that is that they have fantastic drama, and all really sell the story behind the character.
Im not so keen on the Japanese print style of work, but that is just personal preference i think.
Lovely stuff, look forward to seeing more.
