i like your style man, nice and abstract, dude u should take a look at Trent Kaniugas stuff, he's got a similar style like your turtle, very organic (ya know with bones and stuff), but keep'em comin, i dig your stuff a lot so far

September 10th, 2003, 01:38 PM
Thanks for the kind comments. So far the first one is the fave... maybe I'll clean it up and make it a finished concept.

Denace: yeah I've been checkin out his work. I'm a big fan! I've always have had a appreciation of urban/graffiti styled work.

Here's a new one for today... I was trying to do this as a finshed concept but my ink linework started to look like poo, so it ended up in my sketchbook work.

Thanks for the kind comments guys.

I've started to do the tutorials from Don Seegmiller's book. It's time to start learning how to paint. So here's the first one... a tree! lol

December 17th, 2003, 12:36 PM
good work. this is a very nice tree! keep it up, i like your sketches specially the dude with the swords.:)

Sketch
December 17th, 2003, 01:01 PM
thanks Swift. Maybe I should develop that sword guy and the turtle creature more.

Here's an eye from Seegmiller's tutorial... I don't like the shape of the eye, but I wasn't too concerned with the actual drawing.

Good stuff sketch, my only advice is too keep drawing from life. Understanding basic shapes and learning what to put in and what to leave out in a drawing/painting is what really draws the viewer in.

Keep going,

this is tight stuff.. i like the last one the most.. interesting style for the faces.. reminds me just a tad bit of doze green.. looks like you're getting the hang of painting with that last one

Sketch
December 20th, 2003, 07:53 PM
Thanks Loop! Who is Dose Green? I'm pretty sure I know a graffiti artist that goes by Dose... but I've never heard of Dose Green.

Also just wanted to make it clear that the last painting is not my design, it's Don Seegmiller's. I just did the colours.

looking good matt, your style is really starting to come through. I think and extra 30 mins of tightening on each of the last too and you could have something really cool. They are just a touch too loose. Keep it up dude.

Thanks for the input guys! It really makes me want to do more.

Sanby: The book is called Digital Character Design and Painting by Don Seegmiller. Really worth picking up. I have to start reading it again.

Blackarts: You're right. But it's fun to rip out drawings with Sharpies!

Thanks, Chester. I used to be an animator... now I focus mostly on drawing and 3d modeling. It's funny how everyone likes different characters. I like that little guy too :P I've done some more sketches but I've started to take apart my computer so my scanner is in a box somewhere. Hopefully I'll be back up and running soon. Cheers

sideshowbob: thanks meng. I've done both. I'm not doing either right now but I've always had an apreciation for individual sports. I guess because all my friends were skaters when I was growing up... so even if I wasn't I was still around that culture. I love watching skate/snowboard films when I'm bored. Maybe I'll get a board soon so I can whip around my new neighbourhood.

hey man your stuff is beautiful
I'm posting to ask you if i can have your permission to use the funky monkey as part of a tattoo that will be put on me in the near future, i just love the head, I think it would be excellent.
Would I be able to have your permission? It will not be used without your sayso or else its pretty much stealing

I'm really digging your style. I keep imagining the graphic novel these line drawings could fill. i love the expression of the girl in blue, the butterfly girl, and the guy in the red bg(perfect character for a "mission hill" type graphic novel).

on some of these faces the lines make them look like bizzaro(superman) or a zombie. but the crisp lines look really good on a more realistic drawing like the old woman smoking a pipe.
