This is a concept piece I animated using 2.5d techniques in after effects.

Realplayer Clip: [removed, new version below.]

I am having trouble establishing a greater depth relationship between the foreground and background elements without losing the dynamic of the composition. I have tried adding more atmospheric haze and a further layer of hills -but I seem to lose the feel of the piece.

If there are any professionals who could lend their advice, I would greatly appreciate it.

I would separate the BG mountain range. I'd use it's position now (in the image) as it's end position but start it off slightly lower from the horizon that it is and then animate it upwards to it's end position (where it currently is). That'll make it feel like the camera is creeping over the foreground...

I'd also animate the clouds (left to right or something) just a little bit to add more life to the piece.

Beautiful painting though!

Forground trees. You are missing Forground trees. That would really add some 3D depth to it.

I agree with the machine god, add forground trees. You could also add a fence line that travels close by the camera then out to the distance. If you don't like the fence idea, anything that show the viewer a size comparison.

I'm not sure if this would work, but maybe blend a little of the sky color into the far hills. This might wash the further hills a bit.

Otherwise, really nice piece.

Very good, but I agree with what everyone else says. Also, you need more movement in the animation. Right now all that is happenig is you're giving us a close-up of a landscape painting. You need to add some wind, running water, or clouds to give us a sense that we are actually there. Maybe you shoud post this in the WIP section to see if you can get more help.

Thanks for the constructive criticism guys. I will post an update soon.

Jens: I am not sure what you mean. Do you think there needs to be more of a perspective shift between the sky and foreground elements?

Thanks jens

Heres a small update: I think the foreground trees and the scaling of the sky solved the problem.
