First photoshop painting. Started with a brown background and the major dark shapes then built up from there. It was fun! Most of it was done with a mouse.

Welcome, welcome, sir. Love the concept of the first one. Could be a very dynamic portrait if it gets punched out. You're definitely getting somewhere. Keep posting! ;D

Yes, it is a furry, I regret doing it, but hopefully it's good enough you can look past that. My apologies. How is the painting?

Hey Sage - thanks again for the comments on my sketchbook :D
You have some really nice confident cartoon sketches going here - keep it up - post more!
HotHolly paints looking good but a little fuzzy and 'flat' with the range of colour - maybe introduce some very dark versions of each colour in the deepest shadow to really add more depth - particularly with the HotHollyVanity, her hair is molding with her body a little too much. It also looks a little like only her eye and lips are in focus with the main focus set to the mirror image behind... the taps and lipstick have some excellent lighting going on - sharpen up the shape and edges a little tho :)
Anyways, really nice work dude - enjoyed checkin it out - post more! :D

This is Russ, I wanted to try a new style with him so...I did. Him from pose to paint.
sageguy
September 21st, 2007, 09:23 PM
My sketches. I drew the first before goin into the ball game. It's the giant Jesus glove outside Safeco Field and people around it...the next, you can see for yourself. I think that her legs are a little awkward and manly, at least her knee caps are. Her arms are a bit long too. But cool?
The7Artist7
September 22nd, 2007, 09:29 AM
Hey Sage - cool - more stuff! :D
That pic of Russ is sweet - top stuff with the strong colour and lighting:} - my only small crit is make sure to keep style consistent as the light shoulder brushstroke and some on the jeans look a little sloppy and fuzzy. but I didn't even notice the fist time i looked at it so nice one! keep it up :D
ok - on to the flying woman - again cool pic! but as you say there are one or two anatomy hiccups - I'm not saying I'm an expert and I hope you don't mind but here goes:
1st pic shows what I would think are the problem points in that pose...
But personally (2nd pic) I'd shift her hips forward a little to enhance the energy by complimenting the rest of the pic a little more.
I've also shown a slightly more angular line to her chin, narrower shoulder and very slight curve to the top of her left breast
Hope this helps! Rock on and post more though this is some cool stuff! - oh yeh I like the ball game sketch you captured the feeling well :)

Hi! Very nice sketchbook Sage man! Um... Keep posting <3

A few bits of my comic strip that is starting. They're not chronological, just bits of the story. I want to start chronologically, but this was for a class, so I just needed a few mini stories.
This comic is based on the experiences of me and my friends living in student housing. I'm working on my hatching and cross hatching. Any advice? I'm not very good yet.
The7Artist7
December 5th, 2007, 02:36 PM
Hey Sage :D sorry it's been a while - good start to the comic strips!
With the hatching really just be consistent and try not to be too random with the directions as it can start to look like scribbles ( unless that's the look you're after!) overall your hatching is pretty cool here!
otherwise - try to be a little more dynamic with the action sequences maybe
out of the last 6 frames personally I'd have allison diving to grab kellys leg to try to stop her 'getting owned' (frame 2) and on the frame with stars etc (frame 4) I'd make the stuff going on effects a little more powerful :)
overall readable and understandable and nicely laid out (maybe vary the size of a few more of the boxes) - keep it up dude!
post more - :D

Spot on! I think I did this too quickly. It was an assignment, so I had a deadline and didn't spend enough time on it. I think I might redo it sometime soon and definitely make it more dramatic. THANKY!

Woow. Been too long since I've been on here. Here's some stuff that's fairly recent. In the last 6 months or so. The last 6 are my take on "Social Darwinism". It was for a Wester Civilization class in school. So, look at them as a series. Comments and crits are requested.:yayca:

This is part of a larger project for a class. There's the sketch and a work in progress painting. I'm going to be making it a lot crisper than it is right now.:carnifex:

Here's the continuation of this project. I'm working on the lines. Not finished yet, but how 'bout it so far?

Hey - looking pretty good - I'm liking the strength of the inking as an impact. A few pointers - the arms look just a little jelly-like in that they seem to be loosing form. remember to visualize how what you're drawing is constructed - the bone and joints how they pivot and shape and tensions of muscles/tendons. The other point was shadows on her face don't seem to quite match the shape of her hair. but overall shaping up pretty nice - keep up the good work :)

This was done a couple of weeks ago. The guy is being shot at. You might have noticed. My best hatching yet, I think. Improvements? I know there are some.

This is the character for a small comic that I'm working on for class. It's a different take on the nursery rhyme Humpty Dumpty. You'll see what comes of it. ;)

April 7th, 2008, 07:55 PM
I think i like the bold lined version of the brown woman sketch the most, the hair looks pretty awesome.
Its prolly because theres no toenail on it, but I keep thinking her right foot's big toe looks really weird.
Cool stuff man, hope to see more.
The7Artist7
April 8th, 2008, 08:01 AM
Nice new stuff Sage - keep it coming :D
the superhero is cool but (crit alert!) I'd advise keeping all the shading even and tidy like on the torso, check and tighten up your anatomy(although it's certainly not 'bad'), even exaggerate the muscles+joints a little more. The only other thing is his pose is a little 'weak' for a superhero in action situation, kinda like he spotted some nice flowers in a tree lol
not quite hitting the - POW! SMASH-CRUMBLE.. AARH - 'Darkbot is that all you've got - you'll have to try harder! .... :thinks: (goodness! - this guy is tough, I'm gonna have to think of something...)'
Sorry if my crit comes across a little harsh - your shading is certainly progressing and the overall is cool :) I also like the individual style your developing with the Humpty Dumpty - nice strong inks.
Keep up the good work! :bounce:

HAHAHA! Actually, the crit made me laugh. You actually brought something in my attention that I hadn't noticed. Thanks 7!

I'm hoping to be posting stuff regularly now. If I don't, I give everyone full permission to... uh, scold me?
I just went to Life Drawing today and it's going to be a regular thing now, so I'm hoping to improve vastly. Critique me hard. THANK YOU!!!:lifedrawing:

Nice gestures in some of the poses, your anatomy and rendering of the form could use some practice. Overall I think you just need more practice really.
Keep it up!

Hey there Sage! Thanks for that inspiring comment in my SB. Keeps me moving!
I canīt believe I didnīt found your SB sooner man! Pretty awesome comic style you got here. But obviously you donīt want to stop there. Your life drawing (especially post #37) rocks! Neat understandment of form and knowledge of anatomy. Iīll check back in a week or so. And post more often! (Oh man, look who said it. Shame on me.)

Hey, thanks Mr. Smile! I'm blushing! I'll try and post bunches o' stuffs by the next time you visit.
Here are some phonemes I'm working on for a character I'm animating. I would love to get some critiques on them to make them better.:blahblah:

Try using some harder brushes for your paintings. You have some really strong drawings and you are losing the impact by fuzzing over the lines with really soft brushes.

Yup yup. The dinosaur was just a test in some hatching skills, which I don't exactly have yet. Who has tips on hatching?

I was watching some old Warner Bros. cartoons and I had inspiration. So, I decided to act upon that inspiration. What do you think about the style?...Execution...?

Some other stuff I've drawn within the last few days. The dragon design is based off of a friend's drawing and he said I should draw it meaner...so I did. I don't have his original drawing so I can't show you it. Comments?

Hey sageguy thankyou for taking the time and checking out my Sketchbook. Also great feedback too.
Your life drawing looks to be improving, last ones have nice volume.Love your tribute to Ole John Buscema he was one of my Fav comic artists!
His work on "Savage Sword Conan" was amazing!!(showing my age here lol)
I see your into animation as well, thats cool.
Keep it going!

Thank you, S.C.P.
Yeah, John Buscema was a favorite of mine too.
Here are a few of my new doodles, I promise I'll get to that mole! I have some drawings, but they aren't exactly what you would call dynamic. Peace all!

G.D. Furries! >:{
LOL.
Anyhow... is your name Chad? That's weird; so's mine :) And I've seen drawings in here by you where you use... Pentel .5mm blue leads?? This is like the Twilight Zone.. me too... I'm getting scared :teeth:
There's some definite improvement in your work from the beginning... I would like to see some more of your cartoony stuff in addition to your animal studies and see how you're coming on that.
Well... from one sage to another... let's just say... sage on, brotha.

Cool - nice little animations :)
My favorites are the short wine-glass thingy jumping from left to right and the ufo. I feel they both have the most natural movement and completed sequence - keep up the good work and would be great to see a slightly longer animation sequence. Out of interest have you heard of Toon Boom animation software? http://www.toonboom.com I've been using Toon Boom Studio for quite a few years now and find it very intuitive and more similar to traditional animation process then Flash.
Keep rocking :steph:

The7Artist7
December 11th, 2009, 04:40 AM
hehe - nice work as usual dude! My only gripe is Why so Loooooong between posts! lol
Can't make my mind up which colour scheme I prefer - the blue is kinda too strong and the brown being the same as his hair kinda over-does the brown... maybe if you toned down the blue to more of a typical office work shirt blue (whatever that is!)
Anyways - keep it up! and checked out your blog and love the business card idea with the lil panda falling and rolling.
