Which Tool I can use to do a Oil painting style or pastel style ?

Pastel style, use the square chalk brush. Oil painting...hmmmm. gonna look into that,

Paiken, there are some fineart brushes made by a guy called Cris. Here is a link to Jinny's page (http://www.pixelalley.com/Painter7/painter7_brushes.html) which gives them an intro and has a download.

Paikan - That pic was done mostly with the standard Captured bristle bush, some adjustments of more or less grain were made as I expeimented. In the end painted over (cheated?) some areas in photoshop 7 with a dry brush for more texture. It was too smooth in spots for my personal tastes. I don't know if that's how I'd do it now if I had another chance....Don's right, those chalk tools combined with paper textures can give you lot's of looks.


My question---Anybody figured out how to get that scraped off/down oil paint look? Meaning, when the color underneath and canvas texture show though after you have wiped or scraped it off.

Don...you're kidding on the oil-brushes..right...???;)

there's also some decent [oil] ones in the WOW! book series.

I kinda like the variable oil pastels myself (reset to change 'hue' only), in combination with some custom "captured" brushes (with a 'grain' setting); sometimes the palette knife and tinting(blender) tools for added texture and brush-marks.

for scraping off the paint, ? do you mean something like this...(hmm...the jpg quality setting was too low)...

2 layers; base layer has applied paper texture (high contrast inverted 'silk' texture) to a previous painting used as an underpainting.
layer above painted on with brushes that pick up texture with light pressure, so the same texture used on the base layer (canvas) will match up where you want it to.

layer above scraped back with an eraser variant to reveal canvas below..
eraser brush settings:
dab type - static bristle
stroke type - single
method - eraser
subcategory - soft paper color
opacity - 40%
